Overview:
Scotiabank is building on its existing presence in the chemical industry that includes companies producing petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, paints, adhesives, industrial gases and agricultural chemicals. Chemicals is part of the broader Consumer, Industrial and Retail Group (CIR) in New York.
What You'll Do:
As an Associate, you will play an important role in contributing to the overall success of the Global Corporate & Investment Banking Chemical team. You will be a valued member of a cohesive team that executes / delivers on individual and team goals, plans, and initiatives in support of the overall team’s business strategies and objectives. Responsibilities and activities will include:
• Executing a range of corporate finance related tasks including: financial analysis, building and analyzing advanced financial models (including standalone, DCF, and LBO models) industry research, due diligence, etc.;
• Creating marketing materials and presentations;
• Maintaining / designing Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides relating to corporate finance, strategic investments and industry related trends for comparative analysis and presentations;
• Interacting with other departments of the firm such as Debt Capital Markets, Leveraged Finance, Equity Capital Markets, Derivatives, FX and Trade Finance to market the firm’s capabilities and deliver client solutions;
• Supporting transaction structuring and execution efforts, with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability over time ;
• Analyzing lending opportunities, preparing credit presentations and recommendations for internal approval; liaising directly with Global Risk Management;
• Ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct;
• Be part of a high-performance environment that fosters an inclusive work environment; communicating vision/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team;
What You'll Bring:
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Business, Science, Engineering, Economics or Mathematics discipline
- 2-3 years as an investment or corporate banking analyst or at least 1 year as an associate
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail and positive ‘can-do’ attitude
- Knowledge in the financial markets and business
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Strong communication skills; ability to distill key messaging, themes, and concepts from large amounts of information for different levels of audiences across the organization
- Ability to adapt to oncoming challenges presented by a constantly changing work environment
- Prioritize amongst many competing deliverables at any given time
- An aptitude to perform activities using influence through developing deep relationships with stakeholders across business and functional groups
- A strong culture, risk, and controls mindset
- Team player that is responsive, holds themselves to high standards, and is of the highest integrity
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, takes initiative, and is able to operate with minimal supervision
- Strong facility with numbers and computer skills with excellent knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Analytical mind with the curiosity to dig deeper
While prior experience in the chemical industry is valued, it is not a prerequisite
