The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is looking for an Accounting Specialist to join the Business Operations Division to support key acocunting and financial operations within the Division. This position is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting activities under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer.

The Business Operations Division supports the operations of the Office of the State Auditor through the management of the budget, accounting, payroll and other office administrative functions. Our work is done in coordination with the Office of State Budget, Office of the State Controller and other partner agencies.
Following are the key responsibilities of this position:
- Primary responsibility for entering accounting journal entries including deposits, reclassifications, and accruals into the NC Financial System (NCFS)
- Assuring that all recurring invoices are received and paid timely including conducting any necessary follow-up with Division managers and regional office staff
- Preparation of weekly payment packages for OSA and for printing checks associated with those payments.
- Primary responsibility for completing monthly bank reconciliation, OSC certification, and purchase card reconciliation.
- Assisting the Accounting Manager in the preparation of OSA audit bills, management of OSA's capital and noncapital assets and in the preparation of the Office's annual financial statements.
- Maintaining a current chart of accounts for use by OSA for ongoing payments including the completion of any required coding adjustments as needed.
- Preparation of weekly payment packages for OSA and for printing checks associated with those payments.
- Collecting information for the issuance of 1099s to OSA vendors.
- Considerable working knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices.
- Documented experience posting, calculating, and recording financial data or making computations.
- Documented experience preparing standard financial statements and reports.
- Documented experience verifying accounting documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or other curriculum that would provide a core curriculum in financial management coursework from an appropriately accredited institution; OR
Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of accounting or auditing experience; or
High school or GED diploma and four years experience as an accounting technician, three of which must be at an advanced technical level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
