What you’ll be doing:
The Senior Analyst, Risk Appetite and Metrics is accountable for supporting the Senior Program Director, Risk Appetite and Metrics in building and monitoring Risk Appetite Statements tailored to local strategy as well as risk capacity and constraints; acting as a second line of defense to ensure accurate and timely data on risk measures; analyzing and implementing Key Risk Indicators (KRI) and related Management Information Systems (MIS) to track and report KRIs; preparing presentations and reports for senior management and boards; and analyzing and enhancing existing reports and designing new reports.
How you’ll succeed:
Support the Senior Program Director, Risk Appetite and Metrics in ensuring ongoing region-wide compliance with the US Risk Appetite Framework and related procedures for the monitoring and escalation of RAS metrics and related limit breaches.
Produce monthly reporting on Risk Appetite metric results, interpreting and analyzing trends and breaches to provide management insights into risk profile.
Liaise with metric owners to ensure timely responses to limit breaches and capture of related action plans.
Monitor and manage the stakeholder attestation process for qualitative Risk Appetite, investigating and helping action any exceptions or issues arising from the attestations.
Negotiate and enforce Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with risk metric data providers, driving ongoing improvements in lead times for data availability through process reviews.
Track and monitor the status of data collection workflows for monthly and quarterly risk appetite reporting, assisting data providers in timely and accurate data entry into the Metric Information and Reporting Data System (MIRDS).
Understand, interpret, and champion US data policies and related standards for Risk Appetite data, escalating instances of non-compliance, and monitoring remediation plans.
Collect and review manual data process documentation from risk metric data providers.
Escalate and help investigate data problems (e.g. late or inaccurate data) related to risk metrics.
Maintain up-to-date procedure documentation and process maps for key Risk Appetite metric creation, amendment, monitoring, and reporting processes.
Create and maintain dashboards for program key performance indicators to enable management to track the effectiveness of Risk Appetite processes and related controls.
Design and implement enhanced and automated reporting leveraging Microsoft Power BI.
Support the ongoing refinement of the control environment for Risk Appetite processes, including maintaining an inventory of controls and supporting the ongoing testing of controls.
Analyze and recommend system and process changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Risk Appetite processes.
Participate in, and support the creation of, new data sources or platforms as part of an ongoing effort to enhance the availability and aggregation of risk data in the US Region.
Maintain recordkeeping and filing systems to respond efficiently to exam and audit requests.

What you'll be doing
As a successful candidate, you’ll have strong experience representing borrowers in a variety of debt transactions, with a particular focus on commercial real estate financing.You can expect to work on a wide variety of commercial transactions, including CRE financing, syndicated credit facilities, asset-based loan facilities, working capital facilities, and equipment lease financing. Experience with restructuring transactions is preferred.
How you'll succeed
- Providing legal advice and support to US Commercial Banking business lines, including Commercial Real Estate, Middle Market and Regional Commercial Banking, Treasury Management, and Letters of Credit and Deposit and Payment Processing. Such support may include developing and keeping current form loan documentation, outside counsel management, developing and presenting internal training, and in some cases, drafting or negotiating specific loan or deposit documentation
- Advising the business line of new industry developments, laws and regulations affecting commercial deposit and lending products and services and the impact of each on the Bank's commercial products and services
- Developing and implementing legal department policies and procedures on a variety of topics and assisting the lines of business and various risk functions with review and drafting of policies and procedures designed to address identified legal risks
- Providing legal advice and support on Special Assets and OREO matters
- Providing legal advice in connection with the development of new commercial banking products and services, including treasury management services
- Counseling Loan and Deposit Operations staff on interpreting documentation, closing, booking and servicing of loans, and deposit account opening and maintenance matters and related disputes
- Collaborating with a wide range of personnel from the business lines as well as the operations, credit risk management, operational risk and compliance functions to identify and escalate risks (legal, operational, reputational or otherwise).
Who you are
- Licensed lawyer with 10+ years of finance experience in a top law firm, large banking institution or other financial institution engaged in commercial lending with a focus on lender representation
- IL license preferred
- Understanding of U.S. regulatory landscape relevant to bank commercial finance
- Requires strong knowledge of all aspects of CRE legal documentation, related regulatory matters and key issues surrounding CRE lending.
- Familiarity with the legal requirements and documentation relevant to C&I lending.
- Strong knowledge of credit risk policies and procedures, as well as business, finance and banking to effectively interpret financial data.
- Excellent oral communication skills to deal effectively with all levels of the organization. Proven written communication skills.
- Proven, effective negotiation skills. Excellent ability to build effective working relationships with clients and staff at all levels of the organization. Ability to communicate complicated issues effectively and to handle a fast-paced working environment where same-day turnarounds are often expected.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to deal with multiple and sometimes conflicting requirement and time constraints. Excellent adaptability and flexibility to deal with a rapidly changing environment.

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $72,000 - $90,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
