Abou t the Role
The Growth Equity Strategies (GES) team is seeking a highly motivated and commercially minded Tax Director-Investments to lead our tax related efforts with a demonstrated history of working in the investment management industry. This individual will work with the investment team to review tax implications to portfolios and help guide investments decisions through a tax this lens. The ideal candidate will have a deep expertise in tax matters related to equities, derivatives, fund accounting, and trading related implications. The individual must be able to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate great attention to detail.
The role involves in-depth collaboration with portfolio managers, equity research analysts, traders and various operational, legal, and compliance roles. To excel in this role, the Tax Director must have a comprehensive understanding of tax principles and tax law, particularly those related to the investment industry, fund administration and accounting. This includes knowledge of various mechanisms such as custom in-kind baskets in instruments such as ETFs and other Fund structures. The role also requires the ability to create formal processes, draft policies and procedures, and update fund documentation as needed. This ensures that the investment strategies align with tax regulations and optimize tax efficiency.

We manage equity portfolios for institutional and retail investors and the team has $89.5 billion in assets under management as of 12/31/2024.We serve a global client base in the US, the UK, Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East.

Job Responsibilities
- Direct collaboration and interaction with our investment team and trading desk to review portfolios and transactions from a tax efficiency perspective
- Responsible for creating a formal process, drafting policies and procedures, and update fund documentation as needed
- Develop deep understanding of GES Investment philosophy to help develop policies in line with our process
- Act as a liaison to internal teams, including Operations, Finance, Legal and Compliance areas
- Participate in analysis of securities transactions including wash sales, constructive sales, straddles and qualified dividends
- Assess tax impacts on portfolios and develop tax arguments to support conclusions
- Document/develop tax and accounting policies and procedures. Assess and evaluate reporting processes and systems to ensure they are efficient and effective. Work with internal technical resources to enhance existing processes and develop new systems as required
- Lead initiatives to enhance the use of technology and data analytics in tax compliance and reporting processes.
- Establish controls and reporting mechanisms to ensure adherence to local, national, and international tax regulations.
- Contribute thought leadership by staying ahead of trends and sharing insights on tax developments affecting the asset management industry.
- Occasional project work for investment team initiatives
Qualifications & Education Requirements
- Masters in Accounting/Taxation required
- LLM or JD preferred
- 7-10 years’ experience in a law firm, accounting/auditing firm or tax or fund administration department at an Investment Management firm
- Familiarity with taxation of a variety of financial products including equity investments, derivatives, commodities, and ETF’s
- Excellent analytical, technical and tax expertise in Tax laws in US and globally
- Deep understanding of equity markets and/or ETF’s
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
- Understanding of Tax implications
- Ability to work closely with team members and individually to efficiently meet deadlines
- Great attention to detail
Additional Requirements
The team works a hybrid schedule and you will be required to be in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
