JOB DESCRIPTION
Jefferies is seeking an equity research associate, located in New York City, who will support the Senior Analyst covering Property & Casualty Insurance. Key responsibilities include gathering and analyzing industry information, financial modeling and writing reports on the P&C insurance sector and on companies under coverage.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Senior Analyst through fundamental analysis with an emphasis on original, bottom-up research in the P&C insurance sector.
- Oversee data collection and monitor investor news services.
- Conduct research, including financial analysis, analysis of insurance market trends, due diligence on insurance companies and their positioning and strategies.
- Develop and update company-specific financial models.
- Perform financial and valuation analysis of covered companies.
- Draft industry and company-specific research reports.
- Meet with insurance management teams and industry experts.
- Interact with the firm’s institutional sales force and institutional investors.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate would (1) understand the P&C insurance market, (2) have advanced financial modeling skills, and (3) be a driven self-starter
- Prior equity research or investment banking experience is preferred
- An undergraduate degree in a related area of study with a strong GPA. An MBA and/or CFA track is a plus
- Minimum of 2-3 years related work experience
- Concrete understanding of and demonstrated interest in corporate finance & equity markets
- Securities licenses preferred but not required (SIE/series 7, 63, 86, 87)
- Advanced accounting and financial statement analysis skills
- Fluency in modeling financial statements, including forecasting income statements and balance sheets; familiarity with discounted cash flows, valuation, and net present value calculations; ability to analyze large sets of data to determine trends and strong conclusions
- Ability to convey complex and nuanced ideas clearly and concisely, both in written format and orally
- Outstanding analytical skills and intellectual curiosity, with an ability to draw conclusions based on qualitative and quantitative analysis
- Strong interpersonal skills and style conducive to building relationships
- Ability to deliver high quality work under pressure and to meet deadlines effectively
Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $135,000 - $165,000.
The salary offered will take into consideration an individual’s experience level and qualifications.
