Job Summary
Barings Resi – ABF group specializes in residential mortgage related investments. We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Banker to join our Residential Investment Group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in relationship management, origination of investment opportunities, execution, and negotiation of complex investment structures. This role requires a high level of financial and legal expertise, strategic thinking, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach to working with internal and external stakeholders, including legal teams. The ideal candidate may come from finance, securitization, or legal background with experience in residential mortgage sector. The position will reside in our Charlotte, NC office.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including originators, sellers, syndicate partners, and other external parties. Serve as the primary point of contact for counterparties throughout the investment process.
- Identify, source, and develop new investment opportunities in the residential mortgage sector. Leverage market insights and a network of industry contacts to create a pipeline of potential deals.
- Lead the execution of investment transactions, ensuring alignment with the group’s strategic goals. Negotiate terms, structures, and pricing in collaboration with senior management and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal legal teams and external counsels to draft, review, and finalize legal documentation related to investment transactions. Ensure that all documentation complies with regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Monitor counterparties and other key stakeholders throughout the investment lifecycle. Evaluate the performance, creditworthiness, and compliance of counterparties, ensuring alignment with the group’s risk management policies and objectives.
- Monitor and share market trends, industry developments and regulatory changes to identify potential risks and opportunities. Provide strategic recommendations based on market insights.
- Contribute in preparation of detailed reports and presentations for senior leadership, investors, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Real Estate, Business, Law, or a related field. MBA or other advanced degrees are a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in mortgage finance, investment banking, or real estate finance, with a focus on residential mortgages or residential mortgage-backed securities.
- Hands on experience and demonstrated strong understanding of residential investment structures, financing, legal documentation, and counterparty management.
- Experience in real estate law, asset-backed lending, and securitization legal work is highly desired.
- Proven ability to negotiate complex deals and work collaboratively across teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and engage both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly in assessing counterparty risk and legal structures.
- Self-motivated with a results-oriented approach and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
