The Position
Harris Associates is seeking a Quantitative Research Analyst to join its newly established Quantitative Research department. In this high-impact role, you will collaborate closely with fundamental stock analysts and portfolio managers to design and implement data-driven frameworks that enhance stock selection, portfolio construction, and risk management. Your research will influence the firm’s core investment strategies by integrating advanced quantitative techniques with deep fundamental insights.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Portfolio Construction: Develop and refine portfolio construction processes that improve investment outcomes for value-based equity and fixed-income strategies.
- Research: Conduct quantitative analyses (time-series modeling, factor analysis, machine learning, etc.) to inform investment hypotheses and help discover new opportunities.
- Analytics: Perform performance and risk attribution, stress testing, and scenario analysis. Recommend portfolio adjustments based on data-driven findings.
- Collaboration: Present clear, actionable research insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the firm’s value-investing philosophy.
- Innovation: Evaluate new datasets, tools, and methods to keep the research framework cutting-edge; maintain code quality, version control, and reproducibility standards.
- Development: Co-develop tools that enable portfolio managers and analysts to take advantage of research findings.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or related field).
- Minimum 5 years of quant experience in research, portfolio construction, or trading with a proven impact on performance.
- Mastery of Python, major data science libraries (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn), and SQL.
- Proficiency with optimizers (e.g. Axioma, MSCI, Gurobi) and fundamental factor risk models (e.g. Barra, Axioma).
- Experience applying quantitative techniques in a value-investing context or partnering closely with fundamental analysts to enhance stock-selection decisions.
- Excellent communication skills for translating complex data into actionable insights.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to work with all levels of stakeholders with a high degree of integrity, professionalism and maturity.
Preferred
- Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) in a quantitative field.
- Experience with FactSet, Bloomberg, Refinitiv, and similar market data platforms.
- Experience building tax optimization strategies, or working with other non-linear, highly path-dependent optimization techniques.
Special requirements:
May be required to occasionally work during off-times (early morning hours and/or evening hours) due to special projects/deadlines. Working hours of the position may also vary from normal business hours and flexibility is key.

Actual annual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, and other job-related factors. If hired, base pay will be determined on an individualized basis and is only one part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include a discretionary performance bonus and other Harris sponsored benefit programs.
