The Global Funds Management (“GFM”) team within State Street Global Advisors drives sound fund oversight programs across our funds and services. GFM’s Valuation Oversight Team is looking for a Global Head Valuation to execute and own the valuation processes for all securities held across our funds and accounts. You will lead the valuation committee including preparation and review of valuation reports, testing of fair value methodologies, and coordination of fair value determinations and related documentation. You will work and collaborate with various teams across the organization including, but not limited to, Operations, Compliance, Risk, and Portfolio Management, as well as presenting to the Board of Directors of the fund products.
As Global Head Of Valuation, You Will
- Develop, support and enhance our valuation process in support of our global product range in North America and EMEA
- Lead initiatives and develop / propose solutions to complex technical challenges or control issues.
- Engage with partners on the development of valuation control solutions using enterprise-wide technology and digital tools.
- Exhibit a broad understanding of control principles; define and develop practical controls that can be implemented.
- Lead and manage a global team of approximately 12 employees located in Boston, London and Krakow
- Serve as the firm’s valuation Subject Matter Expert; respond to internal and external inquiries related to valuation, provide responses for client questionnaires and participate in due diligence meetings.
- Perform independent valuations on securities ranging from basic to highly complex instruments such as equity, fixed income, derivatives, structured products, private credit/equity, and other assets
- Analyze market data such as prices, yields, and comparable securities to determine appropriate inputs into valuation models
- Document valuation procedures, assumptions, and conclusions clearly and concisely for financial reporting and audit purposes
- Interact with third parties, including external valuation experts, traditional pricing vendors and auditors to ensure robust and accurate pricing for portfolio instruments
- Prepare materials and present as Chairperson of the Valuation Committee, Fund Boards of Trustees and other senior committees on valuation matters
These Skills Will Help You Succeed In This Role
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent understanding of complex structured products and different models used for valuation, e.g. for derivatives and private credit.
- Strong understanding of current global accounting and regulatory standards and developments pertaining to valuation of financial instruments.
- Experience with valuation requirements for registered and unregistered investment companies, e.g., Rule 2a-5.
- Experience of regulatory and audit focus from a control & governance perspective, and able to provide detailed practical guidance on implementing appropriate controls.
- Adaptability to changing circumstances is crucial, as the prioritization of responsibilities will need to evolve with changing circumstances.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and proven influencing and negotiation skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint); Skilled in the use of Bloomberg and other market data sources
Education & Preferred Qualifications
- Equivalent to bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business or relevant field
- Minimum 12-15 years of experience preparing and/or auditing various types of security valuations required
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA) a plus
