Managing Director, Liquidity Forecasting & Strategy
Our Opportunity
Liquidity Management is a critical function of Treasury at the Firm. Reporting to the Managing Director, Liquidity and Treasury Data Analytics, the MD, Liquidity Forecasting & Strategy, will be focused on enhancing the forecasting and strategic capabilities of the Liquidity team. On a functional level, this role will lead the development of our Internal Liquidity Stress Testing analytics and Forecast, Regulatory Liquidity (LCR/NSFR) forecasting, and the related strategies to manage the risk. Additionally, this role will provide leadership over the development of our funding, collateral management, and investment plans at the banks, broker dealer, and parent.
Key Outcomes
- Development of a comprehensive funding plan across all entities, collateral management and optimization, guidance to the Investment Portfolio for future actions, and supporting capital planning.
- Serve as a key owner of the development of the funding plan and guide a $10B+ funding program across Brokered CDs, Bilateral Repo, Tri Party Repo, and FHLB at the banks in BAU as well as other contingent levers for stressed liquidity purposes.
- Refine and elevate our liquidity forecasting and strategy framework, including remediation of MRA's and development of new liquidity management capabilities.
- Support the growth of the client margin lending business and guide funding including Commercial Paper and a robust suite of Equity Financing trades ($20B+ across Secured Bank Loans, Term Stock Loans, Equity Tri Party Rep)
- Provide leadership for the optimization of our collateral stack, including HQLA and Margin Box. The HQLA is currently $200B+ and the margin box is $100B+; where we can optimize the distribution and usage of this collateral.
- Develop and manage a comprehensive BAU Liquidity Forecast and Strategy and create significant capabilities to prepare for the unexpected and contingent funding or balance sheet needs.
- Define and build strategies on liquidity forecasting able to withstand intense regulatory scrutiny.
- Serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert on our liquidity and funding strategies and execution and effectively communicate strategies and recommendations with regulators and executive leadership.
- Provide recommendations and influence our Investment Strategy, Capital Management and Parent Liquidity, Funding Plan, Collateral Management Strategy, Broker Dealer liquidity strategies.
The Managing Director and his/her team drives the development of robust liquidity forecasting & strategy including identifying emerging risks and providing critical insight to enterprise leaders. This role has high impact and visibility playing a critical role in maintaining the financial health and stability of the organization.
What you have
Required Experience
- Minimum of 15 years of financial services experience and 10+ years of liquidity strategy and forecasting in environments of similar scale and complexity.
- Deep technical foundations and experience working across trading, funding/repo desks, liquidity risk and balance sheet modeling.
- 5+ years of people leadership including overseeing highly technical teams and motivating employees to achieve both tactical and strategic delivery goals.
- Experience building and leading a highly technical team of liquidity and funding analysts.
- Deep expertise with investment strategy related to diverse capital portfolios, capital management collateral management and broker dealer liquidity strategies.
- Thorough understanding of the application and requirements associated with 15c3-3 calculations and impacts to liquidity management and funding
- Experience staying abreast of the evolving regulatory landscape and demonstrating impeccable judgement to prioritize numerous initiatives in flight.
- Exceptional communicator with the ability to convey the robustness of Schwab’s liquidity strategies and able to provide thoughtful and accurate responses to questions and challenges posed by investors and regulators. Able to interact with our highest-level leaders as well as a keen attention to detail and complex knowledge of the impact of our liquidity strategies and programs
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Adept at understanding the nuances of Liquidity Management and be able to communicate the strategic actions to very senior level individuals.
- Experience building credibility and confidently conveying information with authority when articulating how liquidity is being managed by the Firm.
- Experience conveying complex concepts through various mediums in relatable terms and anchored in business meaning across various use cases (broad strategic questions, targeted strategic initiatives, board-level communications, etc.)
- Proven adaptability to changing market conditions and making appropriate decisions to ensure accurate strategy frameworks are developed and maintained.
- Proven track record of shaping strategy and leading with influence.
- Successful history of building and cultivating strong authentic relationships with internal/external business partners.
- CFA or other related certification preferred.
