About The Opportunity
The
Senior Research Analyst joins a team with over 30 years of experience in allocating to alternative investment strategies, currently managing $10bln+ in hedge fund investments. The analyst will serve as a member of the
manager research team, and is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and monitoring alternative investments in third-party managers including long/short equity, systematic, and multi-strategy
hedge funds. The Senior Research Analyst will support the Head of Manager Research, Portfolio Managers, and other members of the Absolute Return team by conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis of hedge fund strategies and managers, monitoring markets and existing investments, sourcing new investment ideas through personal networks, industry events, and market research, and interacting with clients to communicate the investment goals and outcomes in their specific strategies.

New York City office.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of this role?
Role
The Senior Research Analyst is a curious, rigorous, and process-driven individual with experience in manager selection and underwriting, and a keen interest in and strong passion for alternative investments and complex investment strategies. The role entails:
- Analysis and screening of the hedge fund manager universe
- Market research on various hedge fund strategies
- Preparation of written research reports and quantitative analytics on individual hedge fund managers
- Managing the approval and underwriting process of new investment managers
- Monitoring existing alternative investments using quantitative and qualitative tools
- Assist in the management, rebalancing and client reporting for specific alternative investment portfolios
- Communicate market, strategy, and manager insights to clients.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
- B.S., B.A. or BBA degree in Economics, Business or Finance
- 7-10+ years of experience within the financial markets, with experience in third-party manager due diligence and alternative strategies, including hedge fund strategies.
- Quantitative analytical skills and an understanding of Equity markets
- Basic understanding of market structure, sources of returns across asset classes, and macroeconomics
- Polished and professional communication and interpersonal skills
- Excel and PowerPoint
- Bloomberg, Vidrio, and AlternativeSoft experience a plus, but not essential
Compensation Range: Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. The salary, benefits and variable rewards will reflect the seniority of the position and a competitive market rate. We expect the annual salary for this position to range between $175,000 to $215,000, commensurate with experience.
