Your opportunity
The Janus Henderson Investors Legal Organization enjoys an outstanding reputation for providing innovative, business-minded solutions. This role provides a unique opportunity to work with a truly global structure for a company headquartered in London, domiciled in Jersey, listed on NYSE with offices around the globe. The high-performing and well-regarded legal department provides advice on a broad range of financial services, asset management, employment and corporate issues.
Managing a team of in-house asset management legal counsel located in EMEA, APAC, and North America, your primary responsibilities will be to provide strategic leadership and direction to your team, ensuring their efficiency in delivering excellent commercial legal services and advice on asset management activities. With oversight of all legal asset management activities, you will be solutions focused and support the business by providing valuable legal advice and mitigating risk. You will support the Deputy General Counsel and General Counsel.
You Will
- Ensure that your team works to the highest standard, providing skilled and effective services to the wider business.
- Provide legal advice with a commercial lens on a variety of legal, regulatory and business issues primarily focused on investment management, registered and unregistered financial products and global financial regulation
- Act as a senior advisor and counsellor to Company executives and support the management team and key business side stakeholders by providing legal and regulatory counsel to help drive corporate strategies and growth initiatives that achieve company objectives.
- Be responsible for managing the global legal and regulatory obligations of the Firm as a registered investment adviser in various global jurisdictions, registered broker-dealer, and adviser to registered investment companies, hedge funds, private funds, institutional accounts, commingled pools and similar accounts.
- Manage the asset management legal team; be an accessible leader and direct attorneys, paralegals and support staff representing the organization in complex legal actions.
- Be responsible for the team’s long-term development, ensuring that the members of the asset management Legal team are adequately trained so that they have the necessary skills to provide an effective service; and use benchmarking to ensure that the resource and output of the team is in line with good practice.
- E nsure that any use of external law firms for services have been approved, are managed effectively and within budget, and seek opportunities to gain more benefits from the Group’s total legal spend.
- Assist the Deputy General Counsel in delivering an effective legal service to the various fund and corporates boards and Senior Management Team.
- Maintain industry connections to gauge market and regulatory developments to manage legal risk.
- Contribute to business strategy.
- Hold key relationships with senior business leaders.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Must have skills
- J.D. qualification required
- 15+ years of relevant asset management industry experience
- Extensive legal experience gained from having worked in-house with a financial services organization or with a leading private practice firm
- Experience and track record managing a sizable legal team
Nice to have skills
- Significant knowledge and experience with a global investment business and applicable regulatory issues; 40 Act experience strongly preferred though not required

Compensation information
The base salary range for this position is $250,000 - $275,000. This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different. This role will be posted through May 9, 2025.
You will be expected to understand the regulatory obligations of the firm, and abide by the regulated entity requirements and JHI policies applicable for your role.
