CalPERS is seeking a dynamic, innovative individual to lead its Office of Public Affairs. This position requires experience managing media relations, social media, multi-media, video, design and internal communications. This position serves as part of the department’s senior management team working closely with stakeholder relations and legislative affairs divisions. It also advises executive leaders on strategic communications.
Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Special Requirements
STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS (SOQ)
An SOQ is required and serves as the examination for this CEA recruitment and must be included with your application.
You must provide responses including specific examples and indicate relevant career details for EACH of the qualification factors outlined below. It must not exceed two pages in length, must not have font smaller than 11 point, and each response must be numbered and answered listing all relevant experience, education, and training, including places of employment, dates, and duties performed. Failure to follow this format and Application Instructions may result in disqualification.
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following SOQ factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate and must address the following:
- Describe your experience developing and implementing strategic communication plans to enhance the understanding of a department or company's programs, decisions and policies.
- Describe your experience acting as a spokesperson on a broad base of issues, such as pension administration, health care, investments, and corporate governance.
- Describe your leadership experience and demonstrated ability to think strategically advising high level executive leadership on public affairs implications of policy decisions, including developing, recommending and implementing appropriate communication strategies.
- Describe your knowledge and experience planning and preparing sensitive and highly complex material for dissemination through all major communication platforms, including traditional media, social media, digital communications, video, and visual design.
- Describe your experience working collaboratively with peers and executives through meetings and forums, maintaining good cross-divisional communications with programs and divisions.
- Describe your knowledge and experience keeping pace with new and trending communication channels to support and implement organizational priorities and objectives.
