OVERVIEW:
The D. E. Shaw group seeks an experienced individual to lead its physical security function. Based in New York, this individual will be responsible for identifying and mitigating risks to the firm’s people, offices, and operations. This role offers the opportunity to shape and develop how we manage physical risk across a growing global footprint in a collaborative and intellectually rigorous environment.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
You’ll oversee the firm’s physical security efforts, ensuring alignment with our operational needs. Working closely with various business units, you’ll help shape policies, procedures, and day-to-day practices that protect our people and offices. You’ll coordinate with Information Security on shared priorities, partner with design and construction teams on new office builds, and work with the facilities team on operational aspects of building security, such as access control and surveillance systems. You’ll oversee firmwide responses to any security incidents that may arise, manage incident tracking, and develop protocols to mitigate future risks. In addition, you’ll serve as a resource for teams handling security-adjacent responsibilities such as travel and events, maintain relationships with building security staff in our APAC, EU/UK, and U.S. offices, oversee key vendor partnerships, and ensure our physical security measures keep pace with the firm’s evolving needs.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- At least ten years of experience in physical or corporate security, ideally in financial services or a similarly high-trust environment.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing complex, cross-functional risk initiatives with sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
- Experience overseeing access control, surveillance systems, and travel and event security, as well as drafting security protocols, managing vendor partnerships, and maintaining incident tracking systems.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills, with the ability to present risk insights and metrics that inform decision-making at the senior level.
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $200,000 to $300,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
