Job Description
Jefferies is seeking a Senior Associate for its Specialty Finance and Financial Technology Research team. This individual will analyze industry macro trends and company financials. Under the direction of the Senior Analyst, the Associate/Senior Associate will help cover 20+ stocks, which will primarily consist of consumer lenders (credit card, auto, specialty, and student) and financial technology companies. The candidate will be part of a broader financial services team, and frequent collaboration with the rest of the team is expected. The Associate/Senior Associate will build and maintain financial models and industry databases, ensuring correct and up-to-date information for research reports that are distributed to internal/external clients. The Senior Associate will also work closely with others on the team to write earnings reports, company reports, monthly/weekly publications and initiation of stock coverage reports. As part of this process, the team member will also review business and trade publications, annual reports, financial filings and other sources in order to gather, synthesize and interpret data on companies followed by the Specialty Finance/Fintech Team.
Over time, the associate will help communicate recommendations to sales, trading and clients. In addition, the associate will help develop marketing materials for clients, meet with management teams and attend industry conferences, when appropriate.
This position is located in San Francisco and coming into the office on a regular basis is required. New York location will be considered for the right candidate.
Required Background:
- 2-4 years of related experience, preferably in sell-side/buy-side equity research, or investment banking; within consumer finance / fintech
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – strong excel skills are critical
- Ability to analyze and manipulate large data sets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail in terms of written work and financial modeling
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize & deliver in a time sensitive environment
- Ability to communicate and collaborate well in a team environment
- Bachelor’s degree with high GPA
- Strong academic background in accounting, finance, economics, and/or computer science.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interest in financial services
- Financial services experience a plus
- Solid experience in business modeling and financial statement analysis
- MBA/CFA/CPA a plus; Securities licensing a plus (Series 7/63 and 86/87)
Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $135,000 - $165,000.
