Role Summary
American Century Investments is looking to add a Municipal Credit Analyst to the Municipal Markets Team in Santa Clara, California. As Municipal Credit Analyst you will be responsible for conducting in-depth research and analysis on a variety of municipal bond sectors and issuers in both the HY and IG space. The analyst will collaborate with other analysts and portfolio managers to provide insights and recommendations for the various investment strategies.
This hybrid position will be based out of our Santa Clara, CA office.

How You Will Make an Impact
- Conduct fundamental financial, market, and macro research in conjunction with assessing bonds from a variety of issuers and industries within the municipal bond universe.
- Conduct sector-oriented research in specific areas of coverage and financial analysis of municipal bonds across the ratings spectrum.
- Analyze economic, financial, and industry trends, financial statements, legal documents, and other relevant materials to assess creditworthiness and investment potential, and proactively communicate your outlook with other analysts, portfolio managers, and other investment professionals.
- Collaborate with other analysts and portfolio managers to provide insights and recommendations for investment strategies.
- Monitor market trends, economic indicators, and regulatory changes that may impact the municipal bond market.
- Communicate investment research through verbal and written form. Produce written credit reports and provide regular surveillance.
- Participate in meetings with issuers, rating agencies, and other market participants.
What You Bring to the Team (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Law, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant municipal credit research experience from a buy-side, sell-side, bond insurance, or rating agency.
- Legal background with experience in analyzing legal documents and regulatory frameworks.
- Superior research skills and the drive to distil, develop, and share value-additive investment insights from multiple angles.
- Proficiency with technology and can utilize investment platforms (Bloomberg, Perform CreditScope, FactSet) as well as with Excel and/or programming languages (e.g., Python) to develop and maintain analytical models and tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of the global fixed-income team.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Assets (Preferred)
- MBA and/or CFA desired but not required.

For New York and California based candidates, the salary range for this role is $115,000.00 - $145,000.00. Actual offers are based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s location, skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. This position is eligible for cash incentive providing the potential to earn more.
Employees are required to be in the office on a scheduled frequency. Adherence to this schedule is essential to fulfilling the expectations of the role.
