Team Overview
KKR’s Legal team works closely with business partners at KKR to advise on KKR’s investment, insurance and distribution businesses, key strategic projects, new business initiatives and corporate operations. The Legal team is responsible for providing legal advice, managing legal risks, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, business ethics, and handling all legal matters relevant to the firm’s business. The Legal team’s core responsibilities include overseeing and advising on investments and other transactions, investment products, public disclosures, regulatory filings, corporate governance matters, litigation, investigations, employment law matters, corporate and other contracts, regulatory and compliance issues, and other legal and regulatory matters, as well as managing outside counsel. In addition, in collaboration with other functions across the firm, the Legal team develops and implements business and enterprise-wide legal policies and procedures and builds robust processes for managing legal and regulatory risk.
Position Summary
We are seeking a US Transactional Regulatory Attorney to support the firm’s compliance with the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act and related antitrust laws, and other transactional regulatory filings made in connection with KKR’s investment activities. The ideal candidate will possess substantial expertise in HSR Act filings, Second Request investigations, and antitrust counseling (including integration planning). Experience with ex-US antitrust filings and Foreign Direct Investment filings would also be valuable. This role will be based in our Boston, Menlo Park or New York offices and will report to the Head of Transactional Regulatory.
Responsibilities
HSR Act oversight
- Lead and manage all aspects of the firm’s HSR Act filings.
- Oversee outside counsel during regulatory processes, ensuring compliance with HSR requirements and U.S. antitrust laws generally.
Other Transactional Regulatory Filings
- Supervise outside counsel in the oversight of non-HSR regulatory processes (including ex-US merger control and Foreign Direct Investment) for KKR’s transactions across the Americas and APAC regions.
Regulatory coordination, compliance and investigations
- Collaborate with KKR Compliance to ensure adherence to the HSR Act.
- Work with KKR Public Policy & Affairs to navigate current and emerging antitrust regulatory frameworks, aligning with HSR filing obligations.
- Manage compliance with antitrust laws and regulations and oversee investigations related to HSR filings and other antitrust matters.
Internal support and training
- Assist internal teams in assessing and implementing new antitrust regulatory requirements aligned with KKR’s strategic goals.
- Design and deliver training sessions on antitrust and foreign direct investment topics for investment professionals.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top tier law school.
- Admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Five to seven years of experience in antitrust, with a focus on HSR filings and Second Requests. At least one year of experience with ex-US antitrust and foreign direct investment regimes is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. antitrust laws, including the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, and familiarity with antitrust laws in other jurisdictions.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex regulatory filings and interactions with regulatory authorities.
- A strong stakeholder-focused orientation with the drive and enthusiasm required to achieve results and assume stakeholder satisfaction.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels, with both internal and external parties.
- Maturity, presence, sound judgment, and ability to form and express opinions effectively to cross-divisional teams including senior management.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Self-starter with strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects in a collaborative manner with multiple stakeholders through to completion in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Accountable, with a strong sense of professionalism and integrity.
- Highly organized, efficient and able to work to tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
This is the expected annual base salary range for this Boston-based position. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
Base Salary Range
$190,000—$250,000 USD
