Position Overview
Reporting to the Chief Research Officer and Co-Chief Investment Officer, the Director, Quantitative Model Implementation will work closely with Research and Information Technology (IT) team members to support the development and deployment of the Firm’s investment models and research tools within the research and production environment. The position will own the strategic deployment of the Firm’s investment ideas in the research environment and collaborate with IT to deploy the investment code in the production environment. Moreover, the position will involve development of proprietary quantitative packages and function libraries for the support of the ongoing research effort. The position will require close interaction with the Analytics and Data Management team within the Research group to ensure the ongoing development and implementation of the Firm’s investment models.
The Director, Quantitative Model Implementation will exhibit strong development and analytical skills, have experience with a wide range of languages, numerical methods and development styles used in quantitative fields (including but not limited to Python and MATLAB), have long experience with cloud-based distributed compute and distributed data storage environments (such as Snowflake and Databricks) as well as a familiarity with financial datasets and financial data. Furthermore, they will exhibit the temperament and interpersonal skills needed to develop successful collaborations with counterparts in other departments.
Key Job Responsibilities
• Ownership of the current and future Research code base including numerical packages developed to support the firm’s quantitative models
• Streamline the implementation of new investment ideas by establishing robust processes and procedures for quality controlled efficient release of code to the Information Technology group
• In collaboration with the IT technology innovation team, the establishment of Research technology strategy to support future investment models including computationally intensive machine learning/artificial intelligence/natural language processing models as well as high dimension feature selection models
• Maintenance, alongside ADM, of the knowledge base for the configuration of investment models used in the portfolio construction process including the firm’s stock selection factors, overall stock selection model, risk models, uncertainty models and trading models
• Development and maintenance, in collaboration with IT and ADM, of production quality highly efficient code for implementation of the firm’s investment models using the firm’s latest technology stack
• Development of code pipelines for efficient, yet quality controlled, deployment of new investment ideas
• Development of research packages to share computation and data tools across members of the research team
• Establishment of research code standards to guide existing researchers to use existing packages wherever possible
• Collaborate with the IT technology innovation team to develop a knowledge base of new technologies that could be used to support the ongoing research effort
Skills and Knowledge Required
• A bachelor’s degree or higher-level degree in computer science, software engineering or related quantitative field
• A minimum 10 years’ experience in software engineering with at least 5 years’ experience within the financial sector
• Creative and curious mindset and eagerness to think outside the status quo
• Working knowledge of the mathematical concepts behind quantitative equity investing
• Strong knowledge of development languages and environments including, but not limited to, Python, VBA, MATLAB and java
• Strong experience with cloud services, distributed compute environments (such as Databricks) and distributed data storage solutions (including Snowflake)
• Expert Excel and Microsoft Office skills
• Strong quantitative analysis skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly organized team player, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and strong work ethic
• Critical thinking and ability to provide solutions to investment problems amid uncertainty
• Possess the ability to find information and data promptly
• Ability to work under time pressure and multi-task
• Attention to detail
This is a hybrid position based in Los Angeles, CA which requires weekly attendance.
