The Business Intelligence Analyst or Senior is responsible for developing and implementing BI (business intelligence) reporting tools and solutions across the agency. The incumbent will participate in or coordinate BI projects, provide troubleshooting assistance for Power BI dashboards, and use insights to enhance BI initiatives. This position will work closely with the Enterprise Risk, Strategy & Performance team, staff within the Financial Services Division, TRS' executive and leadership teams, and agency employees.
This vacancy will be filled at one of two levels - Business Intelligence Analyst OR Business Intelligence Analyst Senior. Selected applicant will be offered the position that most closely matches their education and experience.
Salary Range:
Business Intelligence Analyst: $81,168 - $101,460 Annual
Business Intelligence Analyst Senior: $98,214 - $122,768 Annual
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Business Intelligence
• Assists with gathering information from business units and internal stakeholders to understand trends, and align operational needs with organizational goals.
• Serves as a subject matter expert in BI Solution Development for the agency (Senior)
• Consults with business units to gather information about needs for dashboards, ensuring solutions meet operational requirements. (Senior)
• Develops BI visualizations using various techniques, including Power Query and SQL, to identify, access, compile, and transform data from multiple sources into structured tables and models for Power BI.
• Automates reports, processes, and interfaces to support BI solutions.
• Troubleshoots and resolves high-level maintenance issues in BI visualizations and applications, ensuring operational continuity. (Senior)
• Assists with driving business process improvements through analytics, dynamic dashboards, comprehensive reports, and presentations.
• Communicates with business units about data integrity, modifications, or calculations.
• Develops training (Senior) and provides technical support to business users on BI related tools, new processes, and dashboards.
• Translates complex business operations into effective business intelligence solutions, enhancing decision-making processes. (Senior)
• Engages with internal stakeholders to stay updated on agency and pension industry trends, enhancing BI tools and methodologies. (Senior)
• Assists with researching, recommending, and implementing methodologies for measuring and reporting performance, including key performance indicators.
• Assists with developing and maintaining enterprise risk management and strategic planning BI visualizations.
Data Analytics & Reporting
• Guides quality assurance efforts, ensuring data integrity by reviewing and testing for inconsistencies, missing values, outliers, anomalies, duplicates, and unintended changes.
• Implements advanced methodologies for data measurement and reporting, ensuring accurate and meaningful key performance indicators.
• Identifies opportunities to integrate advanced analytics features of Microsoft Fabric into BI solutions.
• Analyzes data sets to identify trends, anomalies, and actionable insights that inform agency-wide business operations, as well as support enterprise risk management and strategic planning efforts.
• Interprets complex analytical insights and effectively communicates them to senior leadership, influencing strategic business decisions and operational improvements.
• Analyzes data to identify trends, anomalies, potential opportunities, and action areas for business operations.
• Utilizes advanced data cleansing and testing techniques to maintain data integrity.
Performs related work as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Required Education
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent and additional full-time experience in business analytics, data visualization, business intelligence or related experience may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Required Experience
• Three (3) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in business analytics, data visualization, business intelligence or related experience.
• One (1) year of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in utilizing Microsoft Power BI, acquired through progressively responsible roles beyond academic coursework.
• Five (5) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in business analytics, data visualization, business intelligence or related experience. (Senior)
• Two (2) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in utilizing Microsoft Power BI, acquired through progressively responsible roles beyond academic coursework. (Senior)
• Experience may be concurrent.
• A master's degree or doctoral degree in a closely related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
• Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Certification.
• Certification in Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, or similar methodology.
• Strategic Planning experience.
Knowledge of:
• Microsoft Power BI and Power Query.
• SQL, M code, and DAX programming languages.
• Database modeling and data warehousing principles.
• Continuous improvement methodologies (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, PDCA)
• Microsoft Fabric and emerging data analytics tools. (Senior)
• Project management and Agile software development concepts. (Senior)
• Strategic planning and risk management practices. (Senior)
Skills in:
• Developing interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
• Building data models with Power Query, M, DAX, SQL, and SSAS.
• Analyzing large datasets to identify trends and generate actionable insights.
• Presenting BI solutions to diverse audiences, including executive stakeholders.
• Defining technical requirements and supporting Agile development processes.
Skills in (Senior):
• Creating data visualizations and reports using Microsoft Power BI and Power Query to support business insights.
• Developing and maintaining data models with Power Query, M, DAX, SQL, and SSAS to enable accurate reporting and analysis.
• Gathering technical requirements and collaborating in Agile teams to support project goals and deliverables.
• Contributing to cross-functional projects by managing tasks, timelines, and priorities in a fastpaced environment.
• Documenting and analyzing business processes to support requirement gathering and solution development.
• Researching and testing new analytics tools, including Microsoft Fabric, to support innovation and efficiency.
• Conducting research and preparing reports on agency and pension performance to inform internal discussions.
• Using Microsoft 365 tools to collaborate with team members and coordinate project activities.
