Position:
Analyst in the Independent Price Verification (Valuation Review) Group.
An opportunity for an individual to join a global team responsible for ensuring over $50bn of gross trading inventory is appropriately valued. The roll will provide an exciting work environment with significant learning and growth opportunities as well as direct contact with senior individuals across all aspects of Jefferies.
The IPV group provides independent valuation opinions across the entire range of financial instruments within the firm’s sales and trading inventory as well as pushing forward multiple renovation initiatives. The team provides a critical role in ensuring the firms books and records accurately represent fair value and are a key liaison with the Front Office Trading desks, Investment Banking, Product Control, Risk, Middle Office and IT.
This role will provide an individual a unique opportunity to learn, grow, experience and understand the workings of a growing investment bank.
Lastly, an interest in the valuation of private equity, venture capital, private credit, and other illiquid investments are a plus.
Required Background:
- 1-2 years of Finance or Accounting experience; preferably within the context of a professional valuation advisory practice
- Experience or knowledge in the following liquid investment products desirable:
- High Yield Debt, Term Loans and Trade Claims.
- Cash Equities, listed and OTC Options, Futures, Equity Swaps, Convertible Bond
- Treasury Bonds, Notes and TIPS
- Government Obligation Bonds and US Treasury
- Emerging Markets: Corporate Bullets, Foreign Government & Agency Emerging Market bonds
- Familiarity and interest in learning private equity, venture capital, and private credit valuation models for non-traded investment products is a plus:
- Discounted Cash Flow and Weighted Average Cost of Capital,
- Guideline Public Company Multiples,
- Guideline Transaction Multiples, and
- Yield-based Discounted Cash Flow for Credit Positions.
- Familiarity and interest in learning equity value allocation methods is a plus:
- Pro-rata Percentage Ownership,
- Current Value Method (waterfall),
- Probability Weighted Expected Return Method (PWERM or exit scenarios), and
- Option Pricing Model (OPM, also known as contingent claims analysis or CCA).
- Familiarity with ASC 820, IRC 409a/ASC 718, ASC 350 valuation analyses is a plus.
Desired Experience/Skills:
Technical Skills
- Good technical understanding of financial markets and how they are traded.
- Strong Excel skills and understanding of formula driven analysis for management reporting.
- Good database skills for managing standardized datasets, developing insights, and handling routine tasks is a plus.
- Good Power Point skills and understanding of presenting findings for management reporting.
Other Skills
- Interest in enrolling or made progress to a Charter Financial Analyst (CFA) certification is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Excel and Power Point. Bloomberg, QlikSense, database software skills a plus.
- Numerate, analytical and ability to communicate findings.
- Must have a good eye for detail, but also be able to step back and see the larger strategic picture.
- Strong writing skills to provide reliable and succinct commentary on valuation results.
- Strong influencing skills. Able to communicate and present effectively to key stakeholder across the organization. Must also be persuasive with a professional, but firm approach.
- Ambitious, dynamic, highly driven and motivated.
Primary Location Full Time Salary Range of $90,000- $110,000
