Position Summary

The Sovereign Analyst position in the Emerging Markets Group requires a deep knowledge of Latin America macroeconomics, political economy, and markets. The successful candidate will need to have a strong grasp of Latin America sovereign credit, currencies and local rates with experience making value-added and time sensitive recommendations across the Latin America sovereign fixed income investment universe in both local currency and external markets. The successful candidate will be expected to have and continually develop a substantial network of primary contacts, including at relevant policymaking institutions, across the Latin America region. The successful candidate will need to be a proven team player, capable of working collaboratively in a dynamic environment with an experienced team of sovereign analysts, corporate credit analysts, EXD and LCD strategists, traders, and portfolio managers.
Ideally, the Sovereign Analyst will be based in TCW’s Los Angeles office with the bulk of the EM analyst team and traders. Candidates with strong background and experience who need to be based in TCW’s New York office will also be considered. This position will be required to travel regularly across Latin America for investment research purposes.
Essential Duties
- Perform qualitative and quantitative research to analyze sovereign debt markets and sovereign macro fundamentals
- Make clear forward-looking investment recommendations in sovereign debt markets, including local rates, currencies, and hard currency bonds
- Provide intra-LatAm relative value investment recommendations
- Communicate effectively with internal and external clients about LatAm markets and their macroeconomic, policy, political and geopolitical drivers
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant and direct LatAm experience within sell-side, buy-side, or related
- English language fluency (verbal and written)
Professional Skills Qualifications
- Motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across functions and teams
- Spanish and/or Portuguese language fluency a plus
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in economics, international public policy, or related
- Some experience working at a relevant policy institution (Central bank, IMF, World Bank, IADB, etc.)
Estimated Compensation:
Base Salary: For CA based position, the base salary range is $200k - $225k. This is an anticipated salary range only.
Other Compensation: Eligible to be considered for an annual discretionary bonus
