Expense Controller – Vice President
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Vice President, Expense Controller to lead the oversight of non-compensation related expenses, with a strong emphasis on technology spend. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting through robust monthly accruals, detailed expense analysis, and strategic collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in accounting policy application, technology cost structures, and financial systems.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate coding and allocation of expenses across departments, projects, and cost centers.
- Conduct monthly reviews of technology expenses to identify missed or under-accrued items and anomalies.
- Document monthly, quarterly, and annual variance explanations for senior management and finance leadership.
- Prepare and post monthly accruals for technology-related expenses and other non-compensation categories.
- Reviewing Technology contracts and purchase requisitions to ensure correct identification and coding of expenses, fixed asset capitalization, prepaid subscription amortization
- Enhance expense tracking and reporting tools using Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to streamline accrual and analysis workflows.
- Contributing to accounting disclosures with relevant inputs
- Partner with Accounts Payable to ensure timely processing of technology invoices.
- Responsible for maintaining clear, detailed, and up-to-date documentation for all technology expense processes
- Lead, manage and oversee the responsibilities of direct reports and offshore partners
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Excel; experience with PeopleSoft financial systems and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Experience managing the responsibilities of team members
- Understanding of IT Spend Categories (e.g. software licenses, cloud services (e.g., AWS), hardware purchases, SaaS contracts, consulting fees, market data services, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years of experience in expense control
Primary Location- Jersey City Full Time Salary Range of $120,000-$160,000.

The salary offered will take into consideration an individual’s experience level and qualifications.
