Position Overview
The VP, Global Controller is a senior executive role reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer. This leader oversees global teams responsible for corporate accounting (including technical accounting), financial reporting and consolidation, general ledger, accounts payable, travel & expense (T&E), payroll, audit management, and global accounting operations. The role is pivotal in driving Diligent’s AI-first transformation, ensuring operational excellence, compliance, and scalable growth across all accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and develop a high-performing, global accounting organization, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the Chief Accounting Officer and executive leadership, aligning accounting strategy with overall business objectives.
- Champion the adoption of AI-driven automation and modern platforms to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and deliver actionable insights.
- Corporate Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Oversee all aspects of corporate accounting, including technical accounting, general ledger, and statutory reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, driving continuous improvement in speed and accuracy
- Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, new accounting standards, and emerging issues to ensure compliance and accurate financial reporting.
- Lead M&A due diligence activities; develop and execute post-transaction integration plans
- Audit Management & Compliance
- Direct all audit management activities, including coordination with internal and external auditors, and ensure robust internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP, internal financial policies, regulatory requirements, and global accounting standards.
- Oversee the implementation and monitoring of internal controls, risk management, and policy adherence across all regions.
- Operational Excellence & Transformation
- Drive the integration of AI and automation in key accounting processes (e.g., account reconciliations, procure-to-pay, financial statement reviews, payroll operations, cash forecasting, and T&E), freeing teams for higher-value work.
- Lead the standardization and centralization of accounting operations globally, ensuring consistency and scalability.
- Partner with IT and business stakeholders to optimize the accounting technology stack (e.g., NetSuite, Snowflake, FloQast, Panax).
- Team Development & Talent Management
- Build, mentor, and retain a diverse, high-performing global accounting team.
- Promote a culture of learning, operational excellence, and adaptability to new technologies and processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting and controllership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within a multinational organization.
- Deep expertise in US GAAP, international accounting standards, and global consolidation.
- Demonstrated experience leading global teams and managing change in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
- Proven track record of implementing automation, AI, or advanced analytics in accounting operations.
- Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to manage up and down the organization.
- Experience with major ERP and financial systems (e.g., NetSuite, FloQast, OneStream, Coupa) and a passion for leveraging technology to drive transformation.
