We are looking for a Principal Analytics Deployment Lead to join the Portfolio Value Creation (PVC) team. PVC partners with global Investment Groups across a portfolio of ~100 portfolio companies and works out of offices in Toronto, London, New York, São Paulo and Mumbai. PVC consists of ~40 experienced professionals with investment, consulting, technology and corporate backgrounds.
PVC is responsible for driving value creation, including a differentiated data-led and technology-enabled approach, across CPP Investments’ global portfolio of material direct equity investments. The team is active throughout the asset lifecycle with selective pre-deal and consistent post-deal involvement at these portfolio companies.
Job Description
Reporting to the Managing Director, Head of Portfolio Value Creation, you will play a critical leadership role within PVC and its cross-functional data science group at CPP Investments, shaping the data and AI strategy across portfolio companies. This role will ensure that analytics, including AI, directly accelerate commercial and operational value creation by supporting the deployment of analytical roadmaps and individual technical solutions in partnership with PVC and external partners.
While you will spend most of your time working with portfolio companies, you will also work closely with investment professionals, portfolio leadership, and external ecosystem partners to design, scale, and execute long-term data and analytics strategies and roadmaps that drive sustained business change.
The position will be based in our Toronto or New York offices.
Accountabilities
Strategy and leadership
- Contribute to the development and execution of PVC’s analytics-led value creation strategy across the portfolio, from investment evaluation through post-investment execution
- Serve as a thought partner to PVC and investment teams on the evolving landscape of AI and analytic trends, identifying implications for portfolio company’s market and competitive position
- Promote Fund-wide learning by synthesizing cross-portfolio insights, market trends, and emerging technologies relevant to value creation
- Drive disciplined documentation and the creation of reusable tools, frameworks, and learnings to scale impact
- Mentor and coach team members to strengthen technical judgment, business acumen, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills
Pre-investment
- Lead AI and analytics commercial/technical diligence, assessing a target’s data maturity, technology stack, and exposure to AI-driven disruption in collaboration with advisors
- Evaluate opportunities for analytics-enabled value creation, including revenue growth, cost optimization, and automation levers
Post-investment
- Act as the critical translator between technical and business domains to align data and analytics-led solutions with portfolio company priorities and value creation objectives
- Apply strong business judgement to identify high-value opportunities within portfolio companies, prioritizing companies with the greatest transformation and value creation potential
- Build alignment and sponsorship with portfolio company management teams on strategic visions, technical roadmaps and tactical use cases; advise C-suite leaders on capability building, operating model governance and vendor selection
- Determine and manage the optimal delivery model by using PVC’s cross-functional data science team and/or external partners to meet roadmap, budget and value targets
- Scope and lead end-to-end projects, guiding agile cross-functional teams of data scientists and engineers to deliver impactful and business-aligned solutions efficiently
- Build a strong ecosystem of partners that enhances scalability, efficiency, and delivery capacity
Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years leading multi-disciplinary data and AI teams
- Strong commercial acumen and enterprise mindset, with demonstrated success bridging technical and business domains and aligning data and AI initiatives to value creation goals
- Proven ability to develop data and AI strategies that drive measurable business impact and engage C-suite executives from origination to execution
- Proven expertise in facilitating organizational change management and a deep understanding of technical capabilities and enablers required to drive sustainable impact
- Excellent communication and stakeholder leadership, with the ability to influence across technical, operational, and executive levels
- Expertise in leading technical teams that build proofs of concept and deliver production-grade AI/ML models with strong quality and technical rigor
- Strong project management and agile delivery capabilities, with experience coordinating cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver at scale
- Familiarity with modern data and AI platforms, such as Databricks, AWS, Azure, or GCP; proficiency in SQL and Python is an asset
- Demonstrated people leadership and mentoring experience, fostering growth, collaboration, and excellence across diverse teams
- Ideally has had exposure to private equity or investment-led environments
- Conduct consistent with our Guiding Principles of Integrity, Partnership and High Performance
If the candidate is hired in New York, the salary range for this position is USD$215,000 to USD$335,000.
US state/city legislation requires CPP investments to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The base salary range shown here is a reasonable expectation for the posted role and is part of a competitive total rewards package which includes comprehensive benefits, a performance-based incentive plan, a 401 (k) plan and paid time off. Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
