Job Summary
Under the direction of the Benefits Education Manager, the Benefits Education Instructor develops and delivers TRS member benefit education programs for internal staff. The position will reach staff through various communication channels including in person or virtual classroom training, online webinars, presentations, huddle updates, written materials, etc.
This position requires strong organizational skills, effective planning, and the ability to clearly articulate TRS’s mission and statutory and operational requirements related to member benefits. Effective communication skills and attention to detail are required to educate TRS staff on complex subjects. The incumbent must possess an understanding of the Pension Code, Administrative Rules, the Member Guide and TRS rules and procedures. Coaching employees, addressing inquiries, and giving constructive feedback is a key role in developing Member Services employees.
The incumbent must maintain a continuous awareness of pension legislation and stay current on training and development trends and best practices. The incumbent will use their knowledge to analyze and facilitate training on developing issues, trends, and best practices.
Essential Functions
- Develops, delivers and provides guidance to employees at various levels of experience on member benefit operational protocols.
- Designs and maintains training and reference materials, training aids and outlines and related tools and resources in collaboration with the Benefits Education Manager and/or department leaders.
- Collaborates with the Benefits Education Manager, department leaders or third-party vendors as necessary on pension administration system functionality, creating and maintaining operational guidelines, standard operational procedures, quality assurance and metrics.
- Maintains training records of programs and attendees. Provides reports to department leaders on request.
- Tracks and analyzes the effectiveness of training programs by utilizing post-instruction evaluation tools and meeting with staff to ensure material is understood and effectively utilized.
- Conduct targeted training sessions with current staff of all levels based on identified training gaps.
- Member of a professional training association to stay current on training and development trends and best practices. Research, analyze and develop new training curriculum strategies and content in collaboration with the Benefits Education Manager.
Essential Functions (Continued)
- Work closely with Benefits Education Manager to analyze post training survey results and adjust current training methods based on feedback.
- Partners and collaborates with the Learning & Development Department with onboarding new employees.
- Ensures the physical set up for training sessions is appropriate.
- Serve as a backup to the Benefits Education Manager for member related FOIA requests.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
- Three (3) + years of experience in functional area including experience with instructional design, delivery, training facilitation both in-person and virtual
- Ability to understand, explain, and apply adult learning theory during facilitation
- Demonstrated experience coaching and/or training people
- Bachelor’s degree or three (3) years of related work experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirement
- The Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) preferred
