Position Summary
The Responsible AI Consultant is a key member of Securian Financial’s Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence (AI CoE), within the AI Technology & Platform Strategy team. This team serves as the enterprise’s internal experts on how to apply AI at scale turning strategy into enablement, consultation, and delivery support across the business. AI has the potential to transform the value we provide our customers, clients, and channel partners but AI also has risks of bias, discrimination, information leakage, and sustainability concerns among others. In this role, you will help ensure AI solutions across Securian Financial are developed and deployed responsibly. You’ll maintain awareness of emerging AI risks and regulations, and partner closely with the AI Risk Management Working Group and Legal and other Compliance and Risk groups to coach delivery teams through the Securian’s AI Risk Management and other compliance processes. You will help curate and maintain a registry of enterprise AI Solution Patterns for discoverability and transparency, and you will consult on and apply responsible AI principles, policies, sustainability and DE&I considerations, and how these considerations are communicated. This role is ideal for a highly curious, collaborative, and self-organized individual who enjoys connecting people, process, and policy to help ensure AI is used safely, ethically, and effectively across the enterprise.
Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To
- Partner deeply with the AI Risk Management Working Group to evaluate use cases, understand risk profiles, and promote consistent application of responsible AI controls.
- Shepherd AI use case owners and delivery teams through the enterprise’s compliance processes from intake to approval providing clarity, coaching, and support to speed to deployment with risk remediation.
- Monitor emerging AI risks, regulations, and industry best practices to help shape updates to internal AI policies, principles, safeguards, and risk evaluation methodologies.
- Curate, enhance, and maintain an enterprise registry of AI Solution Patterns, ensuring it is accurate, auditable, and actionable for both oversight and discoverability needs.
- Track and report on Securian’s responsible AI maturity, and enterprise trends to enable transparency and accountability.
- Support the creation and maintenance of reusable guidelines and repeatable processes that help associates adopt responsible AI behaviors with clarity and confidence.
- Partner with the Enterprise Sustainability and Diversity Equity & Inclusion teams to evaluate and recommend practices to address AI’s environmental impact and risks of discrimination.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Technology, Data Governance, and other stakeholders to ensure responsible AI expectations are embedded in solution architectures, vendor assessments, and delivery patterns.
- Contribute to the development of training materials, communications, and client and vendor inquiries around Securian’s responsible use of AI along our customer, client, and channel partner lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in risk management, compliance, technology governance, or related areas.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex AI use cases, risk scenarios, and regulatory considerations.
- Curiosity and commitment to staying current on evolving AI regulations, standards, risks, and responsible AI practices.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate complex topics into clear, actionable guidance for diverse audiences.
- Ability to lead through influence, build productive relationships, and collaborate with associates across technology, risk, compliance, sustainability, and business teams.
- Ability to work with ambiguity and help guide teams toward structured, repeatable processes.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies, data ethics, model governance, or other technology policy and frameworks (e.g., NIST AI Risk Management Framework, EU AI Act).
- Background in sustainability and DE&I concepts related to technology or AI resource consumption, discrimination, and vendor reputations.
**This position will have a hybrid working arrangement, working in-office for a minimum of 3 days a week.**

The Estimated Base Pay Range For This Job Is
$73,700.00 - $136,800.00
