OVERVIEW
Blue Owl is seeking an Institutional Business Development Associate to join its dynamic and growing Insurance Solutions team; which provides asset management, capital solutions and services to insurance companies globally. Blue Owl’s expanding presence in the insurance channel is a strategic focus for the firm, we are seeking the right candidate to help support the broader fundraising and relationship management efforts for our third-party insurance clients.
This individual will assist in a broad range of functions across our platform, working with senior members of the organization to assist with fundraising and ongoing client service, aid in new product creation, and facilitate the creation and maintenance of marketing content for the Firm’s insurance clients. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and detail-oriented problem solver who works well in a fast-paced, small team environment. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to multiple facets of Blue Owl’s business and grow alongside an innovative, rapidly expanding platform and team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist and prepare the team to engage with insurance clients and prospects across all aspects of the relationship lifecycle, serving as a product generalist across Blue Owl’s insurance-specific solutions.
- Assist with fundraising efforts and ongoing client service through facilitating the investment and operational due diligence processes for each of Blue Owl’s products.
- Create and manage internal and external materials to assist in the organization and growth of business development within the insurance channel.
- Become familiar with and able to communicate details around fund products and bespoke Insurance Solutions strategies including investment level information.
- Establish strong working relationships across investment, legal, operations and finance teams firmwide to deliver Blue Owl’s best ideas to insurers.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to execute inbound investment and operational-related client deliverables in a timely fashion.
- Work alongside senior leaders to develop new products and their corresponding investment and go-to-market strategies.
- Prepare ad hoc competitive, market and other analyses that underscore the firm’s value proposition to current and prospective investors.
- Strong desire to learn the fundamentals of insurance asset management and opportunity to engage with clients directly over time.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
- 3-5 years of experience in financial services required (leveraged finance, private equity, alternative asset management, investment banking and/or capital markets experience strongly preferred)
- Exceptional work ethic, positive attitude, and collaborative team-oriented disposition
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to grasp and distill complex concepts
- Self-driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking is required
- An entrepreneurial spirit with enthusiasm to learn and take initiative to get projects done
- Excellent attention to detail with high standard for precision
- Resourceful, solutions-oriented problem-solver
- High degree of discretion with the ability to handle proprietary and/or sensitive information regularly and with integrity
- Extremely professional with the ability to interact with senior leaders on a regular basis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Experience with Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ, S&P LCD, Pitchbook or Preqin a plus
- Working knowledge of private markets investment landscape for insurers is preferred but not a requirement
It is expected that the base annual salary range for this New York City-based position will be $125,000 to $140,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
