Position Summary
Hercules Capital, Inc. (“Hercules”) is an internally managed, publicly traded BDC, providing financing solutions to high-growth, innovative venture capital-backed and institutional-backed companies. Hercules and its wholly owned subsidiary, Hercules Adviser, manage approximately $4.6 billion of assets. As part of its strategy, Hercules Capital makes investments in qualifying small businesses through its two wholly owned small business investment company subsidiaries (SBICs). A SBIC is a type of privately-owned investment company that is licensed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) and operate similar to private funds. This position would be responsible for preparing, maintaining, and tracking all aspects of compliance reporting, diligence, planning, and related activities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Primary preparer / reviewer of quarterly reporting schedules, cost of money assessments, eligibility assessments, financial statements, and other compliance related matters.
- Lead coordination, management, and review of reporting provided by external 3rd party SBA compliance reporting firm for the quarterly and annual SBA filings.
- Responsible for screening investments for SBA eligibility, tracking, maintaining, and filing Form 1031s, Form 480 and Form 652s.
- Primary point of contact and resource to address questions from Deal Teams and other internal groups regarding SBA eligibility and certain internal reporting.
- Responsible for tracking and monitoring SBA liquidity needs, amendments impacting cost of money, and assisting legal teams navigate language changes impacting SBA entities.
- Support Fund Manager and Treasury team with Capital Certificates, Leverage Draw Applications, and Initiating Leverage Draws.
- Primary preparer of SBA Exam and annual external audit exam requests.
- Support with coordinating SBA Valuations with Hercules’ internal Valuations Team and assisting in drafting SBA valuation memos, analysis, and meeting minutes.
- Prepare materials for and support new license applications, READ distributions, as well as fund wind down plans, as necessary.
- Lead research into SBA guidance, stay on top of regulation changes, and prepare updated checklists, learning materials, as necessary.
Qualifications
- B.S. or B.A. degree required.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office applications required.
- Three (3+) or more years’ experience in accounting or operations positions.
- CPA, CPA Exam passed, or other accounting certification preferred.
- Experience with SBIC reporting strongly desired, but not required.
- Ability to work autonomously, own responsibilities, stay organized, communicate status and issues timely and clearly, and operate effectively in a very fast paced environment.
