About The Opportunity
Our
Franklin Equity Global Growth Team is seeking a
Growth-Oriented Equity Research Analyst, covering the
Healthcare sector, to join a high-performing team focused primarily on managing global- and non-US separate accounts with over $8 billion in assets under management. This position is based in
New York City and will report directly to the strategy’s lead Portfolio Manager.
The current Franklin Equity Global Growth Team is composed of two portfolio manager teams (Global Growth and International Growth) and one analyst team, where analyst roles are a mix of sector-oriented and generalist roles. Sector analysts are organized around key investment sectors: Cyclicals (Energy/Materials/Industrials), Business Services, Healthcare and Technology (Technology and Communication Services).
What are the core responsibilities for this Research Analyst?
- The healthcare focused research analyst’s core responsibility includes identifying and researching public equities investment opportunities within the healthcare sector for inclusion in multiple funds managed by the team.
- The analyst is also responsible for monitoring trends in the healthcare industry. Each analyst is expected to cover and have portfolio representation of approximately 12 active names.
- All seven dedicated research analysts report directly to the lead portfolio manager, and all seven analysts participate in the team’s annual bonus pool using a transparent and uniform methodology tied to the performance of their recommendations in the various strategies.
- The analyst may on occasion also be responsible for representing the team’s investment philosophy, process and strategy in support of winning new portfolio mandates or maintaining client relationships.
- The group runs three primary strategies, Global, EAFE and ACWI ex-US. Each strategy is concentrated (35 names each) and has a mid-cap growth orientation. Each strategy is longer term in nature with overall portfolio turnover generally less than 30% and with names usually held for four or more years in the strategy. The strategies are research driven with each analyst having a significant say over which names are held in the portfolio. As a result of a high degree of portfolio ownership by the analysts, we have had very low staff turnover among the team over the past 10 years.
What are the ongoing responsibilities of this role?
- Develop content for scheduled, recurring monthly, quarterly, and other periodic investment product commentaries leveraging investment team and individual research, performance attribution reports and other data analytics. Commentaries are created for multiple audience types: FA, broker dealer, institutional, sub-advised, international, and end-client use.
- Write and oversee production of high-profile deliverables (e.g., thematic papers, market commentaries, crisis communications, media responses, social media, and special projects).
- Originate ideas for content from industry news, research, investor calls, and the Franklin Templeton Investment Institute. Conduct meetings/interviews with portfolio managers and senior management for new content and white papers.
- Attend investment meetings with portfolio managers and research analysts to build knowledge of underlying investment strategies and learn the “voice of the PM” to effectively develop communications.
- Manage assigned projects/deliverables by actively communicating with team members about deadlines and informing all interested parties of deliverable timelines and status.
- Ensure copy complies with corporate standards, effectively communicates desired message, and meets project deadlines/specifications.
- May assist with the completion of RFPs, DDQs, pre-sale and post-sale marketing collateral and corporate communications.
What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
- Minimum of 7 years investment analyst research in global growth companies, most of which should be healthcare sector oriented.
- Candidates with proven research skills across various capitalizations and regions preferred.
- Candidates from institutional long only equity platforms or hedge funds preferred.
- BA or BS required, MBA and/or CFA preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in using fundamental research and modeling techniques to drive stock selection.
- Intellectual persistence to tackle hard problems and develop insights from multiple angles.
- Strong problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Solid verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate all facets of the investment process and strategy on behalf of investment team.
- Effective relationship management skills and demonstrated credibility with investment team and distribution teams.
- Ability to support business development and client retention efforts.
- Ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
Compensation Range: Along with base compensation, other compensation is offered such as a discretionary bonus, 401k plan, health insurance, and other perks. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At Franklin Templeton, we apply a total reward philosophy where all aspects of compensation and benefits are taken into consideration in determining compensation. The salary, benefits and variable rewards will reflect the seniority of the position and a competitive market rate. We expect the annual salary for this position to range between $190,000 - $230.000.
