Position Summary
The Staff Accountant of Global Employment Tax is a position within the Carlyle Corporate Accounting and Finance Department. This position supports Global Employment Tax, Global Payroll and Accounting matters related to the firm's global mobility (state-to-state and international travel), shareholder, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) and various compensation programs for Carlyle's employees and partners.
This position will report to the Manager of Global Employment Tax and help support employee and shareholder functions within multiple Carlyle departments, including Corporate Accounting, Tax, Long-Term Incentive (LTI), Legal and HCM.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist Manager of Global Employment Tax on quarterly mobility adjustment calculations related to US state- to-state travel as well as non-US travel based on the firm's policies.
- Responsible for updating the global income tax rates for RSUs within Morgan Stanley taking into account office location changes, address changes and travel during the grant to vest period on an award and/or participant level perspective.
- Prepare and analyze world mobility for the global population and identify the employees who approach the de minimis number of days in each state and country. After approval of the Global Employment Tax team, communicate directly with the employees and their executive assistants.
- Assist Global Employment Tax and Global Payroll teams in preparing the individual income tax rate analysis and income allocation of mobile employees as it relates to RSUs.
- Assist Principal of Global Employment Tax in the research and review of global employer social tax rates on a quarterly and annual basis for payroll tax budget purposes.
- Review and analyze the expenses of the global population and compare them against the timesheets submitted to ensure proper compliance with the global time reporting policy.
- Monitor and respond to employees inquiries in the global mobility inbox. These questions pertain to employee travel policies, specific questions pertaining to distinct employee travel and travel tracker system.
- Responsible for providing responses to global employees on RSU tax matters with respect to mobility and income splits.
- Coordinate with service providers on individual expat tax returns as well as internal resources in Corporate Accounting and HCM on expat related cost estimates and accounting.
- Prepare check/wire request forms for expat federal and state extension payments as well as payroll and employment tax invoices for vendors.
- Assist the Global Employment Tax and LTI teams in the preparation of information returns and reports in the respective countries on RSU and equity related matters.
- Assist Global Employment Tax and payroll teams in any other requests such as individual and corporate tax audits.
Requirements
Education & Certificates
- Bachelor's degree, required
- Concentration in Accounting, Business, Finance, Human Resources or other business-related degree, preferred
- GPA of 3.0 or above required.
Professional Experience
- 1-2 years of relevant Accounting, Tax, Global Mobility, Tax or Payroll experience required.
- Strong MS Office Skills, in particular Excel and Outlook required.
- Tax experience in areas such as Expatriate and Mobility Programs, Individual matters and Global Employment Tax a plus.
- Experience with global equity and compensation programs a plus.
- Proven experience with technical research preferred.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to multi-task and work across multiple groups.
- Self-Starter with a high interest in learning new information.
- Strong team player with a positive attitude, detail-oriented and organized.

Benefits/Compensation
The compensation range for this role is specific to Washington, DC, and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to the skill sets required/preferred; prior experience and training; licenses and/or certifications.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000.
