MIM's Insurance Asset Management group is responsible for the overall portfolio management of the MetLife's General Account $420 billion assets and supports MIM's Insurance Asset Management business. MIM overall currently has 78 unaffiliated insurance investors globally with $194 billion in AUM invested across all MIM strategies.The Insurance Asset Management group provides value added capabilities including strategic and tactical asset allocation, customized portfolio strategies and other insurance advisory services.
The Role
MetLife Investment Management (MIM) is seeking a senior leader to join its Insurance Asset Management group as Head of Insurance Advisory.You will lead our global efforts on insurance advisory supporting MIM's Institutional Client Group (ICG) and the global insurance product distribution platform.You will lead MIM's insurance interface function with clients and consultants for MIM's insurance asset management business, partnering with ICG and representing the full spectrum of MIM's asset product offering.
As the Global Head of Insurance Advisory, you will be responsible for development and implementation of Insurance Advisory platform including portfolio optimization, new money portfolio construction, ALM and hedging solutions, portfolio strategies as well as product development support. As the leader, you will be responsible for delivering customized investment solutions to insurance clients to achieve objectives within the return, risk, regulatory, capital and accounting environment within their business.
Also, you will involve strong thought leadership on global regulatory insurance frameworks, industry trends and devising customized portfolio strategies for MIM insurance clients.Drawing on market insights and knowledge, you will partner with all MIM's asset sectors, insurance specialists and portfolio management teams to develop and implement portfolio strategies to grow both existing and new client relationships.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities):
- Global insurance advisory partner and subject matter expert.
- Lead buildout of Global insurance Advisory platform. Identify and coordinate with resources globally and assign key responsibilities as needed for client requests, RFPs, analysis, etc.
- Lead insurance advisory interface and communications for existing MIM insurance client base as requested.
- Provide thought leadership on insurance landscape, industry trends and portfolio implications across multiple regulatory regimes.
- Partner with ICG in following up on new prospect leads. Attend client meetings as needed to discuss insurance advisory themes and portfolio strategies.
- Support cross-selling of MIM platform across investment sectors, teaming with ICG and sector specialists.
- Support product development and mandate design.
- Strategy, Thought Leadership and Market Insights.
- Lead all portfolio and strategic analytical work for both internal and external clients, partnering with portfolio managers, asset sector specialists and ICG.
- Identify areas of opportunity to differentiate MIM advisory and strategy work for clients.
- Drawing on competitive analysis, market research and investor input, advise senior management on competitive strategies for Insurance Asset Management.
- Manage and provide coaching to portfolio managers and ICG globally on advisory issues and changes that could impact portfolios.
- Maintain a high profile in the Insurance Asset Management landscape, including active participation in industry organizations and events globally. Engagement targeted at expanding awareness of MIM as an insurance solution provider and facilitating winning single or multi asset mandates.
- Provide a favorable face to the market, enhancing recognition of MIM Insurance Asset Management as an innovative insurance solution provider.
- Represent MIM Insurance Asset Management and communicate MIM's related strategy and capabilities at industry conferences, publications and other media outlets.

What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications):
- 15+ years insurance industry and related asset management experience.
- Strong understanding of insurance industry and insurance balance sheets, understanding insurance financial analysis and related regulatory regimes including US regulatory environment and Bermuda preferably.
- Strong understanding of fixed income and equity investments and how they fit in insurance portfolios in varying regulatory regimes.
- Global perspective and experience in working with international constituents and clients, established contacts in financial and insurance industry is essential.
- Strategic investment perspective, able to research and formulate opinions/conclusions leading to formulating customized insurance recommendations and solutions.
- Strong technical expertise, previous experience in building portfolio optimization tools, portfolio construction and hedging strategies for insurance portfolios is preferable.
- Good understanding of insurance products, liability modelling and assumptions.
- Strong team building and organizational skills, established success in partnering with and/or leading diverse teams of both direct and indirect reports in a complex, matrixed environment.
- Strong collaborative skills, ability to work across and leverage resources from the broader MetLife Enterprise to benefit 3rd party insurance growth effort including regulatory, accounting and additional insurance portfolio related services.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, able to craft and present thematic material to external insurance clients
