Summary
The Tax Principal role entails working closely with the Tax Executive and Managing Directors, other Tax team colleagues including other Tax Principals, and service providers to manage all tax aspects of the Private Markets business including private equity, co-investments, infrastructure, secondaries, and real estate. The Tax Principal may also have responsibilities in other investment verticals, such as Absolute Return Strategies and Strategic Investments.
As an onsite/hybrid employee, you are expected to be in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well as a third day in coordination with your manager.
Responsibilities
The individual will be involved in the following critical activities:
- Coordinate with others to manage the Global tax compliance process for investment partnerships and accounts managed by the firm including Federal, State, and International tax reporting.
- Lead tax process improvement projects using different tax technology solutions while collaborating with various Departments with a high focus on increasing efficiency and risk management.
- Communicate regularly with Fund Finance and Treasury executives to implement strategies designed to improve the transfer of information between groups, including the tracking, booking, and processing of tax payments and refunds.
- Research tax technical issues and articulate findings in a manner suitable for the audience.
- Work with service providers to stay abreast of legislative and regulatory tax changes and communicate tax developments to management team.
- Review tax deliverables with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
- Draft client correspondence and participate in communications with clients, as needed.
- Review fund structures of underlying fund investments for domestic and foreign entities and identify tax filing and income reporting requirements.
- Review partnership allocations of income for investment partnerships and issue K-1s to investors.
- Perform related duties as assigned including handling tax notices, updating tax forms, responding to investment tax questionnaires.
Education, Skills And Experience Requirements
The ideal experience and critical competencies for the role include the following
:
- CPA required, BA/BS in Accounting, MST preferred, minimum 3.5 GPA.
- Minimum of 8 years public and/or private tax experience required, preferably a public/private mix.
- Proficient user in Microsoft Excel with the ability to efficiently manage large datasets required.
- Expertise in federal and state returns for domestic and foreign partnerships and corporations.
- Expertise in international tax including experience with PFICs, CFCs, ECI/FDAP/FIRPTA withholding.
- Experience with FATCA/CRS reporting a plus.
- Experience with Alteryx, Power Automate, or Power BI a plus.
- Strong organizational/project management skills and detail-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and oral.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.
- High degree of integrity.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to balance multiple concurrent projects.

It is expected that the annual base salary range for this New York City-based position will be $150,000 - $185,000. Actual base salary may vary based on factors such as individual's experience, skills, and qualifications for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on factors such as individual, team, and company performance as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
