THE ROLE
Using discretion and judgment, research US + Canadian sovereign and agency debt issuers and currencies, to develop investment recommendations for the fixed income portfolios managed by MFS.
What You Will Do
- Conduct independent research within the Developed Market Strategy Team to develop investment recommendations in the areas of sovereign and agency bonds, inflation markets and FX for the fixed income portfolios managed by MFS.
- Contribute to firm-wide discussions regarding interest rates and foreign exchange strategy.
- Develop internal models / frameworks and use external research sources to provide perspectives on sovereign and agency bonds and derivatives, yield curves and foreign exchange.
- Using research sources and various business publications, work independently to structure, develop and communicate investment recommendations, assigning ratings (buy/hold/sell) to sovereign issuers and their bonds.
- Strong capability to analyze vast quantities of macroeconomic data especially concerning monetary policy, inflation and labor markets.
- Attends conferences and meet external experts and the relevant authorities in issuing countries to gather investment ideas and develop investment themes.
- Act as the in-house expert on UST/Canadian markets.
- Performs additional duties as directed.
What We Are Looking For
- PhD level or Masters level in Economics preferred. CFA preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience, which should include US sovereign issuer / Fed analysis and ideally currency/inflation strategy.
- Good working knowledge of the North American interest rates markets, the international financial market, bonds, interest rate derivatives and currencies.
- Relevant sovereign debt market experience should include experience with bonds and derivatives, as well as a variety of other capital structure analysis skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and think critically in formulating and assessing investment recommendations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for work in a team environment and for interactions with clients.
