Role Summary
The Tax Senior Manager, assists Corporate Tax with preparing the organization’s state income and sales tax returns, calculating estimated income tax payments, and gathering income and sales tax information for audits.
Responsibilities
- Assists with preparing the organization’s state income and sales tax returns by evaluating competing priorities and delegating work accordingly for tasks such as gathering and analyzing financial accounting information, computing apportionment factors and state adjustments, preparing state taxable income calculations, and documenting tax positions. Assigns tasks as necessitated by staff availability and timelines.
- Manages the relationship with the outside accounting firm for tax return preparation. Coordinates the tax team’s review of their work products.
- Assists with preparing the organization’s quarterly and annual income tax provision by coordinating tax team staff’s analysis of financial accounting information. Offers technical guidance and training to all staff as needed.
- Manages quarterly SOX compliance requirements related to assigned income tax controls. This includes overseeing the timely preparation and review of key schedules, assuring proper documentation, and completing certifications of assigned controls.
- Assists with researching issues and state tax planning initiatives as well as gathering income and sales tax information as necessary for tax examinations.
- Assists by gathering and analyzing financial accounting information for special projects.
- Interacts with other financial and functional areas to gather information for the timely and accurate preparation of required filings.
- Identifies and implements policies and procedures to improve efficiency of global tax accounting process, including improvement of technology and transformation strategy.
- Participates in the development of software solutions for tax process automation by identifying, developing, and directing the implementation of technology tools and process improvements to reduce low-value work, and increase tax resource productivity/focus on more value-added work.
- Effectively partners with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives, drive process improvements, and implement best practices.
- Responds to inquiries from various internal teams as inquiries arise.
- Manages and provides leadership and guidance with respect to professional development of assigned direct reports.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or Business Administration AND 8+ years of total relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong state income and sales tax compliance and tax accounting experience
- Experience with Oracle TRC (provision) system
- Strong Excel skills
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- CPA candidate strongly preferred
FINRA Requirements
FINRA licenses are not required and will not be supported for this role.
Work Flexibility
This role is eligible for remote work up to two days a week.
Base Salary Ranges
$132,000.00 - $225,000.00 for the location of: California, New York
$116,000.00 - $198,000.00 for the location of: Washington, D.C
$105,500.00 - $180,000.00 for the location of: Colorado, Maryland, Washington and all other US locations
Placement within the range provided above is based on the individual’s relevant experience and skills for the role. Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance.
