About the Research Department
Our mission is to understand how the world works — building and compounding our understanding of the timeless cause-and-effect relationships that move global economies and markets. With curiosity, cutting-edge technology, and deep sets of data, we build frameworks and analytical models that explain everything from long-term debt cycles to currency devaluations, and we use that compounded understanding to create and evolve our investment strategies and portfolios for our clients. Our research associates are an integral part of our investment process – focused with their research teams on sharing new insights and linkages about how economies and markets work.
About the Government Policy Team
The Government Policy team plays a vital role in Bridgewater's research process, helping to perceive and build a deep understanding of significant themes in global policy and political economy, and to communicate these ideas internally and externally. Our associates have a strong interest in international economic relations (US-China, EU-China, WTO, EU-US TTC, CTPP, SCO), and enjoy and have a track record in conducting in-depth research that produces unique insights into the most important national and global political economic questions of the day. The team's rigorous, exploratory research helps drive Bridgewater's understanding of global policy developments and how these may impact markets and economies.
About the Role
As a Research Associate on the Government Policy Team, you'll further Bridgewater's understanding of key political economic developments in major markets (e.g., US, EU, China, and Japan) and international economic relations that impact economies, markets, and geopolitics.
You will drive the following responsibilities:
- Build a deep understanding of the major market economic policies and important political-economic developments, anchored in a rigorous study of the key variables informing economic policy
- Perceive, monitor, and analyze a fast-moving, diverse set of political economic developments in major economies
- Produce comprehensive weekly research reports on a wide array of topics for our CIOs, senior investment leaders, and Bridgewater's clients
- Develop into one of the firm's go-to analysts on political economy questions
- Collaborate both within the Government Policy team and across the firm to further our understanding of economic policy in major economies and international economic relations

- Have a particular interest in Asia and China. Bonus if you're proficient in Mandarin
Minimum qualifications:
- 4-year degree from an accredited undergraduate institution, master's degree preferred
- Have meaningful experience conducting rigorous qualitative research and producing research reports

Compensation Band:
The wage range for this role is $90,000 - $130,000, inclusive of base salary and discretionary target bonus. The expected base salary for this role is between 80% - 90% of this wage range.
