The Accountant III is a dual accounting and tax role. This position will report to the U.S. Region Senior Manager Credit Control as well as U.S. Tax Director and will be a leading contributor and serve as key point of contact to Equipment Finance business. As part of the U.S. Finance team this position will be responsible for accounting, tax, reporting, and internal controls with respect to the Equipment Finance business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review loan vs lease classification for any new deal
- Review operating vs financing lease for all new leases
- Perform control function of ensuring lease/loan schedule reviewed by Finance are properly set up in Aspire
- Perform journal entries for cash movements that impact EF customers, funding to the EF entity, finding new leases/loans
- Perform monthly EF GL reconciliations and verification of syndication revenues
- Perform SOX control functions for controls that reside within Finance for EF
- Determine tax life for assets; MACRS rates for tax depreciation
- Determine bonus depreciation eligibility by state
- Prepare federal and state income tax returns
- Determine onstream / upfront SUT
- Review SUT returns and coordinate payment
- Review PPT filings and coordinate payment
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
- 3-5 year business related experience
- Equipment Finance experience a plus.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, particularly related to lease accounting
- Prior tax experience a plus
- Ability to develop and maintain close working relationships with internal stakeholders
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, including ability to prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks
- Attention to detail while demonstrating the ability to think critically and see the big picture
At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $86,000.00 - $105,000.00 for the Chicago market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
