Job Summary
As a control manager within Finance Control Management (FCM) at the Executive Director level, you will be responsible for maintaining a strong and consistent control environment across Firmwide Finance, promoting early operational risk identification and assessment, effective design and evaluation of controls and sustainable solutions to mitigate operational risk. Responsibilities include: risk identification and assessment including ongoing monitoring of operational risk and the control environment, control design and evaluation, issue management as well as governance and reporting including managing control committees and forums.
This Control Manager role will support the Corporate Controllers organization, specifically the Firmwide Regulatory Reporting & Analysis (FRRA) and Bank Controller, Accounting Policy & Reporting (BCAPR) organizations.
Job Responsibilities
- Establish Oversight and Governance in partnership with FRRA and BCAPR leadership teams to drive business control forums, ensuring agenda and materials effectively cover critical business operating risk.
- Assess and monitor Operational Risk: This includes being able to: Manage Corporate Controls, focusing on Regulatory Reporting, Bank Controlling, and Accounting Policy Reporting and to contribute to the delivery of strategic control initiatives.
- Identify and remediate control gaps and ensure risks are properly mitigated.
- Review and implement key firm wide policies on behalf of FRRA and BCAPR.
- Lead thematic reviews to deliver a consistent and improved control environment and/or address specific regulatory concerns.
- Provide guidance in relation to controls audits and testing as well as assisting in regulatory exams.
- Timely identification, escalation and recording of reporting errors including review of incidents with key stakeholders to agree on root causes and delivery of appropriate remedial actions.
- Participate in key initiatives, as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, and be involved in a diverse set of issues that will have a direct impact on the organization.
- Partner with Lines of Defence (Compliance, Op Risk, and Audit) to understand their priorities and engage them as appropriate to manage the control environment.
- Understand the Firmwide Policy/ Standard (s) governing the CORE Program and Firmwide Common processes; act as an internal Subject Matter Expert to Business and Control partners.
- Manage and motivate team members. Engage in people management processes like performance, talent and mobility management, employee engagement and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) activities – to build a diverse, high performing team of control managers that drive individual and team success. As well as leading by example, with exemplary personal and professional attributes. Inspire confidence in all levels of staff as well as key business and control partners.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities And Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or above
- 10+ years of financial services experience in controls, audit, quality assurance, risk management, or compliance.
- Communication / Presentation – Strong writing skills and experience drafting policies, standards and frameworks. Excellent verbal communication skills with an ability to articulate and explain business issues and controls concisely.
- Demonstrated experience of sound judgement in assessing risk, engaging/influencing senior leaders, and managing through change.
- Problem solving / analytical skills – solid critical thinking, attention to detail, and analytical skills; able to synthesize large amounts of data and formulate insightful conclusions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to develop compelling and meaningful executive presentations that will drive opportunities and recommendations for improvement.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Knowledge of US Financial Regulatory reports
- Process analysis & design acumen – ability to understand a process end to end and associated risk to inform effective and sustainable control design and implementation. The ability to write Action Plans, Procedures and implement Change Management
