What is the Opportunity?
Position reports into the US Governance Risk and Controls (GRC) Implementation Office and is responsible for the planning, execution and delivery of one or more major regulatory workstreams within the GRC Implementation Office. Position is responsible for managing regulatory portfolio(s): executing against the program structure, providing subject matter expertise into the program approach, and reporting status to senior leadership. Liaises with Legal, HR, Regulatory Relations, Technology and other key support functions across the RBC Enterprise.
What will you do?
- Responsible for the planning, execution and delivery of one or more major regulatory workstreams within the within the GRC Implementation Office
- Develop Board, Management, and regulatory reporting.
- Provide strategic oversight into remediation approach and execution.
- Responsible for leading quarterly progress reports and ongoing GRC communications with regulators.
- Partners with senior leaders in the GRC office to ensure integrated activities across regulatory remediation.
- Partners with senior leaders in the GRC office who are managing remediation activities to ensure that output from remediation activities has traceability back to root causes and regulatory responses and has proper signoff through appropriate governance channels, as necessary.
- Provide leadership and ownership of various remediation initiatives as needed.
- Partner with first, second and third line of defense colleagues, serving as a conduit to ensure program completion.
- Work in a consultative manner with operational and other functional specialists to implement relevant laws, regulations and guidance into bank processes and procedures.
- Interact with regulators to provide key status on regulatory compliance programs.
- Work with senior management to identify, discuss and report regulatory compliance delivery progress.
- Responsible for fostering a culture of compliance with existing and pending regulations.
- Lead and manage colleagues team through influence and example.
What do you need to succeed?
- Minimum 10 years of experience in banking compliance, risk, legal, regulatory or related bank regulatory experience
- Minimum 10 years of financial services industry experience, of which 5 years must include direct experience in Compliance and/or Risk Management
- Minimum 3 years of experience leading and managing teams
- Proven leadership and program management skills to drive alignment across key business functions.
- Deep understanding and proven ability to build relationships with internal and external partners
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, and communications skills with an ability to interact effectively with stakeholders and regulators, to include virtual, matrixed leadership experience and the ability to effectively manage and build relationships across City National.
- Experience managing or being a part of a compliance or risk management team for a large US bank or large Legal Firm
- Proven leadership and project management skills to drive alignment across stakeholder groups to develop and deliver repeatable end-to-end risk management solutions and controls aligned with group’s processes.
- Deep understanding of risk framework, corporate/business policies, and programs to translate into plans for the business, function and/or risk type.
- Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and risk management in the financial services industry
- Strong program and change management skills.
- Good communication skills / executive presence. Previous consulting experience preferred.

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000 - $250,000 (New Jersey) / $130,000-$210,000 (Minnesota), depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
