Position Overview
The Private Debt Product Strategy team’s role is to foster (i) greater depth of client relationships, (ii) specific and extensive Private Debt strategy experience, and (iii) a differentiated service element to help BlackRock meaningfully and more rapidly increase its footprint in a quickly growing and increasingly competitive Private Debt asset class. The team will do so by leveraging its product expertise, proprietary and tenured client relationships and proven history of executing successful Private Debt fundraises. The Investor Relations pillar, which focuses primarily on outward client-facing engagement, incorporates two core (and complementary) functions, each of which require experienced and robust product knowledge: (1) fundraising (in collaboration with internal distribution partners engaging with both existing and prospective clients), and (2) servicing existing clients.
This product strategist will have a proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, work across multiple initiatives simultaneously, and develop a strong fluency in private debt markets, strategies, and vehicles. This role will be located in New York, NY.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Strategist within the Investor Relations pillar with a primary focus on products distributed through global wealth.
- Work in close partnership primarily with Portfolio Managers, Alternative Markets Leaders and other Product Strategists to provide coordinated client coverage, strategy subject matter expertise, and market insights to clients.
- Responsible for raising capital for the firm’s Private Debt strategies across major wire houses, independent broker dealers, RIAs, and other channels such as family offices, foundations, and endowments. Assists in client follow up, requests and analysis as opportunities progress.
- Supports development of private debt thought leadership, market / business updates, and messaging to differentiate our products and platform from competitors
- Identifies unique opportunities to expand our Private Debt business through product adjacencies that add value to the platform.
- Serves as an ambassador for the firm and is viewed by wealth sales teams and end clients as a knowledgeable Private Debt strategy representative.
- Attends (when appropriate) industry events/conferences and can join in a speaking/presenting role to represent BlackRock.
- Demonstrates strong working knowledge of key market trends and developments.
Skills/Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from top undergraduate institution with strong quantitative and qualitative skills; CFA/CAIA/MBA a plus
- Minimum 5 years professional work experience in the financial services sector with Private Debt and Alternatives industry specific knowledge a plus
- Investment and markets background, ideally with experience in credit, closed-end private equity-style products for global investors.
- Ability to develop strong and trusting relationships with both internal and external clients swiftly and effectively.
- Results driven individual with a high level of attention to detail.
- Leadership - ability to influence, inspire people, while also working in a collaborative team culture.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate sophisticated concepts and ideas.
- Capacity to move fluently between clients, relationship managers and portfolio managers to provide value-add perspective and deliverables.
- Understanding of key drivers of success and a working knowledge of our competitors
- Ability to effectively execute on decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- FINRA Series 7, 63 licenses (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $147,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
