Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for a Physical Therapy Assistantto join our team. This position provides physical therapy treatment to patients under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist. The treatments assist patients in attaining maximum restorative function, comfort, and well- being while considering the diagnostic and physical limitations of the patient.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Provide gait and transfer training for patients in the Physical Therapy dept. and on the unit as needed using a variety of assistive devices.
- Monitor and progress weight bearing status, endurance, technique, and skill level
- Implement active, therapeutic and assistive exercise
- Set up programs of PROM with unit CNAs
- Set up home exercise programs
- Utilize appropriate equipment (prosthetics, assistive devices, exercise equipment)
- Prevention of contractures, and postural correction
- Fall risk reduction education to both patients and staff
- Applies electrical, thermal and cryotherapy modalities as ordered by the physical therapist.
- Maintain communication with physical therapist regarding patient treatment, goals and safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate patient information.
- Fax schedules to all units and call each unit every hour to ensure the patient visit occurs.
- Effectively describes and documents patient’s response to PT treatment, their performance, problems, and progress and the plan to address issues; also report progress towards goals set on the assessment
- Uses universal precautions including hand washing /hand sanitizers for staff and patients. Completes regularly scheduled cleaning of dept. equipment in accordance with guidelines.
- Maintains supplies and monitors the department’s supplies and assist in placing orders as necessary (linens, water, band aids, etc.)
The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, flexibility is required for training purposes and to meet hospital needs. Salary Grade: MH10

Management prefers candidates with the following;- Considerable knowledge of physical therapy principles, techniques, methods, modality and their proper application.
- Ability to instruct and supervise subordinate staff members, student interns, and other medical personnel in physical therapy methods and techniques.
- Ability to teach physical therapy treatments to patients and patients' families.

Special Condition for Continued Employment;- Annual Physical Therapy Competencies- completed in the first quarter of each year and include goniometer skills; use of gait belt; A/PROM; assistive equipment adjustment; demonstrate safe techniques and education with multi-surface transfers, gait training, therapeutic exercise, lifts, weight and other machine; express knowledge and skills in therapeutic exercise; demonstrate manual therapy techniques and thermal agent modalities-use and purpose; expected communication to PT regarding treatment plan, goals and documentation; patient safety; and age specific competencies.
