Overview
As a valued leader in the Financial Institutions Securitizations corporate credit team, you will be exposed to deal flow that is diverse in terms of industry, structure, geographic area and business risks. The Securitization portfolio is comprised of complex, highly structured credits, which support the various special purpose, bankruptcy remote SPV relationships of BNS’s asset backed commercial paper conduits or funded on balance sheet. You will perform in depth review and analysis of loans and provide recommendations to the VP &/or SVP Credit or Senior Credit Committee. Tasks include: risk analysis, portfolio monitoring, deal structuring, negotiation with stakeholders, preparation of credit presentation recommendations and presentation at Senior Credit Committee.
The Director oversees the Securitizations portfolio for Global Risk Management, reporting to a VP, with overarching responsibility to ensure the efficient and effective maintenance of the portfolio at an acceptable level of risk by exercising sound credit judgement, ensuring business strategies and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Adjudicate on credits, managing a portfolio of assigned accounts, either directly or through your team, including responsibility for management, preparation and presentation of credit recommendations, to mitigate the risk of losses to the Bank, including review of trading documentation.
- Conduct industry analysis, lending guideline reviews and special projects for submission to senior management, including preparation of board-level reports
- Provide recommendations to senior executives and present/ participate in discussions in Corporate Senior Credit Committees as required.
- Demonstrate a high degree of knowledge on program sponsors, industry and product knowledge/expertise and ensure the well- founded, profitable growth and ongoing quality of the portfolio.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Creates an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk.
- Partner with the Vice President in building a high- performance environment through training and mentoring. Assists in implementing a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
What You’ll Bring
- MBA, CMA, CFA or CA Designation preferred, combined with progressive credit or corporate banking experience.
- Solid knowledge of credit, and the structures and protections required for complex securitization credits, including understanding external rating agency methodologies for securitizations and awareness of tax, legal and accounting rules in various jurisdictions.
- Superior skills in financial analysis and risk assessment, including for the unique attributes of securitization structures.
- Experience with a broad spectrum of originators.
- Broad understanding of a number of industries and markets which the securitization vehicles support (eg consumer, digital, automotive, credit cards, leasing, retail, healthcare, etc).
- Strong knowledge of legal documentation (ISDA, securitization documentation).
- Thorough knowledge of the Bank’s lending policies, procedures, practices and regulatory requirements an asset.
- Technology skills to effectively leverage a variety of data management systems combined with understanding of risk rating models and capital implications
- Ability to debate the merits and shortfalls of credit proposals with Bankers, Senior Management of GRM and Senior Credit Committee, approving/declining or providing recommendations as appropriate which requires highly developed written and presentation skills.
- Strong strategic influencing and relationship building skills to deal with senior executives, banking customers and other stakeholders.
- Strong people management skills with demonstrated commitment to coaching and developing staff.
