The Role and the Team:
Morningstar Managed Investment Data is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join as a Senior Data Research Analyst to focus on
data acquisition, and
database quality improvement. This analyst will collaborate closely with colleagues from different teams and locations while also working independently to strengthen our database quality from market and investment angles. This position is based in Chicago and will report to the manager of the Operations Americas Team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and standardize critical data collection processes.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership over the issues in the data request queue, remaining responsive and providing timely updates, follow-up, expedition, and resolution.
- Manage high-touch client data readiness dashboards; identify opportunities and drive the automation of dashboard monitoring.
- Streamline end-to-end data collection process in partnership with cross-team contacts such as Data Operations, Client Service, Product, Sales, etc.
- Build process metrics, create and enhance analytical tools, and continuously improve process data quality and process efficiency by applying LEAN Six Sigma tools.
- Write and maintain process SOPs, ensuring data and methodologies are in place to meet product requirements and client needs.
- Act as an expert and escalation point in the domain investment data area.
- Communicate data requests to data providers, including all necessary data templates and submission instructions and answering any questions.
- Participate in calls with data providers to accelerate data acquisition in partnership with subject matter experts and local data consultants.
- Present data solutions, collection processes, and methodologies to clients if necessary.
- Serve as a mentor to junior analysts on the team.
- Perform data entry and resolve daily data issues.
Requirements
- Passion for investment data, along with a solid understanding of fund data points, data collection processes, and data flow.
- Willingness to collaborate with global teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Strong client-centric mindset, self-learning ability, and time-management skills
- Fluent oral & written English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills, such as proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SQL.
- Previous experience in Quality Control, Lean Six Sigma projects or cross-team projects is highly preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree is required, and knowledge of the investment industry or other professional certificates like PMP or CFA is a plus.
- 2-5 years of work experience in the financial service industry is required.
