CL Life and Annuity Insurance Company is a growing direct annuity writer which is expanding its finance team to add a dedicated investment accountant. The role is a hybrid position based in Fort Worth and the position will report to the controller.
The Statutory Investment Accountant is responsible for reporting on the financial activities related to the investment portfolio of CL Life and Annuity Insurance Company. This role involves maintaining investment records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Investment Accountant will report to the Controller and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including portfolio managers, auditors, and regulatory bodies, to optimize investment accounting processes and provide accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities - Investment Accounting:
- Maintain accurate accounting records for a diverse range of assets, including publicly traded fixed income and private lender originated mortgages and loans.
- Monitor daily investment activity and ensure timely posting of trades, dividends, interest, and other income to general ledger and investment reporting system.
- Reconcile investment transactions with custodians and portfolio managers to ensure general ledger and system of record reflects complete and accurate picture of portfolio on a timely basis.
- Support the development of long- and short-term cash forecasts.
- Ad Hoc financial support to the Controller
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly GAAP and Statutory financial reporting for investment portfolio in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze and report on portfolio performance, valuations, and trends.
- Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and industry specific regulations.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulatory frameworks and financial reporting requirements.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and systems related to investment activities.
- Work closely with investment team to align accounting practices with business objectives.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- CPA, CFA, or equivalent professional certification (preferred).
Experience
- 5+ years of GAAP and statutory reporting experience, with a focus on investments.
- Working knowledge of derivatives preferred.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory framework for investment accounting principles and practices.
- Experience with accounting software and investment management systems. (e.g. Finance Force, Clearwater, AVS+).
Skills And Competencies

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of STAT, GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements.
