The Piedmont Research Station is hiring a Research Operations Manager for our Poultry Unit. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient, productive, and profitable, while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products.
The primary purpose of this Research Operations Manager is the establishment, implementation and management of research studies related to poultry production with an emphasis on Broiler’s, Broiler Breeder’s, Layer’s, Free Range, Hatchery Management, and in the future Aviary Management.
The major functions of this position are:
- Program manager for assigned programs / projects
- Ability to work in many different housing environments.
- Supervision
- Human resources management for assigned staff
- Overseeing operation and maintenance of assigned assets
This position will also support the Dairy Unit, Horticulture Unit, Crops Unit trials and agricultural crop production as seasonal demands and workloads may require. This position will require weekends and holiday work on a rotational schedule.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Knowledge of research program methods, principles, implementation, and evaluation sufficient to direct and manage complex and or multiple poultry production research projects independently.
- Knowledge of the setup, operation, calibration, and maintenance of a variety of equipment used in agricultural research and production.
- A wide variety of interpersonal skills will be required to train and supervise a diverse workforce to meet objectives and to collaborate effectively with research faculty and staff.
- Ability to use computer software to communicate research data and observations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision as well as in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to lift 50lbs routinely and perform all work in adverse weather conditions.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Must possess the following at the time of application or qualify for certification within six months of employment:
- Public Pesticide Applicator License
- Forklift Driver Certificate issued by the Research Division
- Medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
- Animal Wastewater Operators Certification
You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.
Bachelor's degree related to the assigned program area and two years of general research experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
