As a senior legal/regulatory/compliance counsel and fund management executive, I bring over 15 years of experience leading teams and developing strategy in the asset management industry. My track record includes successfully growing firms while minimizing legal risk: start-ups, mid-sized ($6-$27B), and leading Wall Street financial services firms. I have experience with multiple asset classes: Credit, Derivatives, Equity, Fixed Income, Multi-strategy, Quant, VC, and more. I hold a JD from Yale Law School and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Career Highlights:
• Turned around three asset management firms in CXO roles by:
- Establishing structure, controls and results that drove top scores in regulatory and client exams
- Reducing legal costs by as much as 80% while enhancing risk management
- Simultaneously driving operational efficiencies and revenue increases by as much as 30%
• Global experience leading highly diverse teams across North America, Europe, and the Middle East
• Recruited direct reports who were recognized among firms’ most valuable and productive employees, with zero turnover of my hires during tenure; known for development, raises, promotions; considered a “talent magnet.”
I've practiced asset management and M&A law at a top New York law firm (Skadden Arps - NY and London). I've worked on fund launches, asset sales, corporate transactions, regulatory exams, compliance matters, mergers & acquisitions, activist strategies, and succession issues.
At Goldman Sachs, I advised the firm's private funds, funds-of-funds, and private equity businesses--including the then-largest private fund in the world. I also supported the board of Goldman Sachs Gives, the partners' philanthropic vehicle.
My public service includes advising a number of prominent officials in the US Congress, the Pentagon, and the White House. Early in my career, I covered business, politics and media in an award-winning news column.
I engage in focused board and volunteer service for such worthy nonprofits as Christ Church (United Methodist), the ASPCA, the Humane Society, and the State Department's Welcome.US program.
As a German-Brazilian-American citizen, I speak several languages. I enjoy travel and wildlife photography, jiu-jitsu, and flamenco guitar.
