This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 50% of base salary.
The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Associate Portfolio Manager on the Global Equity team.
Global Equity is the largest asset class by market value in the total fund and is dedicated to maximizing risk-adjusted returns. The Global Equity team manages more than $80 billion in assets internally in passive index strategies across the U.S., developed non-U.S. and emerging markets. The remainder of the portfolio is invested with external investment managers in active equity strategies. The overall portfolio is diversified across market capitalization, style, region, and investment strategy.
Under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager, the Associate Portfolio Manager is responsible for evaluating externally managed equity portfolios in accordance with approved policies, procedures, and guidelines. Incumbent will provide independent analysis and consultation on Global Equity policies and processes in addition to recommending external equity manager allocations. Incumbent promotes teamwork and cross-functional collaboration and communication in support of CalSTRS strategic goals.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Progressive investment management experience
- Experience leading or supporting a large portfolio
- Experience overseeing external managers
- Knowledge of economic principles and trends, and their impact on investment portfolio
- Ability to gather and analyze a broad range of economic and investment information
- Ability to synthesize information into concise and coherent conclusions and recommendations
- Ability to prepare and present reports to the teachers’ retirement board
- Ability to lead, coach, mentor, and supervise staff
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing with all level of staff and management
- Possession of an advanced degree
- Possession of a financial/accounting certification such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM)
An incumbent who possesses a professional certification in one of the following designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analysts (CAIA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential. Only one 5% base pay differential is eligible regardless of the number of certifications.
