The North Carolina Department of Revenue is seeking to fill a Revenue Tax Auditor II position for the Central Section of the Examination Division. The purpose of this positions is to ensure compliance with North Carolina Revenue Laws by employing professional auditing principles and practices in the comprehensive examination of individual income, corporate income, and franchise tax returns. These examinations involve the interpretation and application of tax laws, the utilization of accounting procedures, the auditing and processing of returns and the investigation of tax issues of a substantial variety and varying complexity. The position will utilize excellent communication skills to request appropriate information needed to resolve tax issues and to communicate the audit findings to the taxpayer. Position must utilize extensive computer skills to effectively use and maintain a variety of software programs and databases.
About the Division:
The mission of the Examination Division is to administer the State tax laws, and collect taxes due, in an impartial, uniform, and efficient manner. To achieve this goal, Auditors and Technicians actively identify non-compliance, pursue collection of all taxes owed the State, conduct quality state tax audits of taxpaying entities by employing professional auditing methods, standards, and procedures, and maintaining fraud awareness through the enforcement of the criminal provisions of the revenue laws. Operations are conducted in the most effective, efficient, and professional manner possible to attain the highest degree of compliance with tax laws and regulations. The Examination Division provides timely and effective assistance, advice, and information on tax matters to individuals, businesses, and governmental entities, and maintains the highest degree of integrity and public trust.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the revenue laws of North Carolina, North Carolina administrative code, technical advice memorandums and directives, departmental policies, Secretaries' decisions, court decisions, Attorney Generals' opinions, and the Internal Revenue Code.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the operations of the Department, the various tax schedules, and DOR's tax systems.
- Experience documenting, justifying, and supporting audit findings and communicating information to taxpayers.
