These include the following six major retirement plans: Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System, the Legislative Retirement System, the Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System, the Consolidated Judicial Retirement System, the Optional Retirement Program, and Firemen’s and Rescue Workers’ Pension Fund.Retirement Processing Supervisor is one of two in Retirement Processing responsible for directing and supervising all work activities to include determining member eligibility for retirement, calculating and verifying benefits, researching difficult and complex case matters, providing correspondence regarding retirement options and ensuring quality control. This position is directly responsible for providing guidance and interpretations for the laws governing the Retirement Systems.Job Duties- Directs a staff of Administrative Support Associate and Specialist positions executing the requirements of the Retirement Processing Section administered by the Retirement System Division.
- Directs daily, weekly, and monthly workloads and activities.
- Reviews and maintains various metrics supporting quality, quantity, timeliness, and customer service in accordance with DST goals and objectives.
- Provides technical insight and advice regarding retirement processing law and existing policies and procedures to staff.
- Performs talent acquisition tasks when vacancies occur; interviews candidates and recommends hiring of new staff.
- Ensures and participates in new employee on-boarding; provides and ensures formal and informal training for new and existing staff; identifies new training needs.
- Develops performance management documents and performs mid-year and annual performance evaluations on all staff.

- Working knowledge of other benefit programs such as Social Security and Defined Contribution plans.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and prioritize office workflow.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form with members, agency staff, and management.
- Experience screening and interviewing applicants and making recommendations.
- Experience in human resource management.
- Proven ability to provide excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle individual cases and sensitive situations that require more judgment and diplomacy.
- Proven ability to understand customer needs and deliver excellent quality services.
- Experience in public speaking.
Management Preferences- 1 to 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Experience in interpreting NC General Statutes.
- Experience supervising a team of at least 10 or more.
