Overview:
Prepares federal and state tax returns for entity structures using financial reports, reconciliations and other accounting-related activities. Ensure all internal and external deadlines are met, while maintaining accuracy and compliance with Bank policies, relevant tax and accounting standards, and regulatory and/or contractual requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:
Prepare 1065 and 1041 tax returns for entity structures and report taxable activity on corresponding K-1s and grantor statements.
Prepare activity and trial balance summaries from underlying support, including posting journal entries and book to tax adjustments to provide timely draft tax returns for review and signing by internal and/or external partners; ensuring all internal and/or external deadlines are met, while maintaining accuracy.
Responsible for assigned clients and corresponding tasks and tax returns, with supervision and review.
Review accounting support and underlying transaction documentation for completeness and accuracy; research account variances and recommend adjustments as needed.
Summarize provided information and prepare calculations needed for tax reporting.
Maintain tax capital accounts for beneficial owners.
Participate in tax and accounting specific training to expand job-related knowledge.
Support the improvement and implementation of existing and new processesprocedures and new processes related to the tax return preparation and underlying accounting for various products that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
Complete tax and accounting tasks in a manner compliant with applicable laws and regulations and/or that serve to help the Company be in compliance with laws and regulations that apply to the business line the position supports.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The position works independently under general supervision. This position (with support of more experienced personnel) has interaction with internal Bank business partners as well as external client contacts and auditors.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field with significant Accounting coursework and a minimum of 1 year accounting, audit and/or financial institution experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 1 year accounting, audit and/or financial institution experience
Proficiency in pertinent spreadsheet software
Knowledge and application of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting) Principles
Strong interpersonal skills
Minimum 2 years tax return experience
Education and Experience Preferred:
Partnership, Corporate, and Grantor Trust tax return preparation and presentation of taxable activity on K-1 and grantor statements.
Entity trial balance maintenance, including adjusting entries, capital tracking, and book to tax analysis.
Knowledge specific to financial services and/or securitization industry and reading trust agreements
Experience with below or comparable software: CCH products (‘Workflow’ project tracking, ‘Axcess’ tax preparation), Checkpoint Research and/or Learning, SuperForms for specialized tax forms/filings.
Detail-oriented with organizational and documentation proficiency
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Enrolled Agent (EA) designation, or willingness to pursue one of above designations.
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $56,655.45 - $94,425.76 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
