William Blair Investment Management’s accounting and corporate actions team is responsible for two primary functions: reconciliation and corporate actions. The corporate actions group performs the processing of both mandatory and voluntary events, such as mergers, acquisitions, spinoffs, stock splits, dividends, tender offers, and other corporate events. Team members work with William Blair’s internal trading groups and custodians to ensure events are processed accurately and promptly.
Responsibilities Include But May Not Be Limited To
- Process mandatory corporate action events for all domestic and international securities managed by William Blair Investment Management (i.e., dividends, splits, mergers, rights offerings, etc.). Review all event records processed by external data vendors. Match all event records, processed internally and externally to portfolio accounting system to validate accuracy.
- Coordinate and process all voluntary corporate action events for both debt and equity securities. Read, analyze and understand the corporate action notices, and interpret the tax reporting implications and cost basis allocation. Research and verify corporate action information with alternative sources when necessary. Communicate corporate action event details in a timely and accurate manner to the portfolio manager for decision making purposes and the custodian bank for execution.
- Review all corporate action position, transaction and cost basis discrepancies uncovered by the accounting team during the daily reconciliation process. Complete thorough review of the events and correct discrepancies to minimize the difference between internal records and that of the custodians.
- Work with custodians and counterparties to resolve dividend and corporate action proceeds claims.
- Coordinate the processing of security class action claims with a 3rd party service provider.
- Stay abreast of corporate action industry standards. Ensure services provided by existing vendors are aligned with latest service and deliverable standards.
- Respond to questions and issues from internal team and external vendors in a timely and satisfactory manner.
- Identify ways to improve corporate action processing and bring to the attention of management.
- Ensure operations standards, policies and procedures are followed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Progress towards MBA or CFA preferred
- 3-5 years of financial services experience required
- 2+ years of experience as a corporate actions analyst/administrator preferred
- Commits to satisfying internal and external customers
- Displays high attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.
- Commits to meeting identified quality and efficiency standards.
- Delivers clear, effective communication and takes responsibility for understanding others.
- Applies strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range at time of posting is below. Base salary does not include other forms of compensation or benefits. Actual base salary within the specified range is based on several factors, including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior relevant experience, specific degrees and certifications, job responsibilities, market considerations and, if applicable, the location of the position.
This role is eligible for either a discretionary annual bonus (based on company, business unit and individual performance) and/or commission-based incentives.

Salary Range
$70,000—$85,000 USD
