The CalSTRS Communications Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Information Officer I (Specialist) in the Marketing and Design Strategy unit.
The Communications Division is a team of information officers, graphic designers, multimedia specialists, web and social content producers, and administrative professionals. The division develops and implements communication strategies to ensure CalSTRS members and beneficiaries receive the information they need to understand their benefits and enjoy a secure retirement. Communications manages and creates content for the following channels and tactics: digital signage, writing and editing, graphic design, internal and external communications, media relations, publications, building signage, email newsletters, streaming/video services, social media and website content. Communications also assesses the reputation and organizational risk environment where CalSTRS has potential exposure to develop effective mitigation strategies and action plans. As part of the Public Affairs Branch, the division collaborates with External Affairs, Governmental Relations and other divisions to tell CalSTRS' story to stakeholders and the public.
The CalSTRS Marketing and Design Strategy unit oversees writing, graphic design, and digital and print production of member publications and newsletters, plus investment, financial and other reports. Team members work collaboratively to ensure CalSTRS' communication material is consistent with brand standards and writing guidelines.
Under the direction of the Information Officer II (IO II), the Information Officer I (IO I) performs project management, writing and editing tasks associated with producing CalSTRS communication products that inform and educate CalSTRS members and their beneficiaries, public school employers, interest groups, policy makers, and the public of the features and activities of the CalSTRS retirement system.

- Expert user of Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Reader and Pro
Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.
Telework Information: We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento two days per week.
